well i mean you've got an alright analogous color harmony thing going on
what sort of colors you use depends on the feel you're going for
there are tons and tons and tons of color theory resources on the internet and they're all basically the same
just look up "itten's color star" and you'll get the gist:
space jousters. think i'll work on these some more tomorrow, especially on some snazzy lance designs. And helms. And maybe even their mechanized space steeds.
Yeah the balance is alright on them, but as far as practicality goes, the last one looks like she's drunk and leaning on her lance, which somehow has remained perfectly straight, despite her leaning on it. It throws off the figures to have the lances perpendicular to the ground.
okay okay, one more thing before bed. Posted this a while ago and finally starting to render it out. I fear the monster is losing his silliness. Gotta work on that.
I like the new nose a tiny bit better. It gives it a cow-like feature, and cow's are retarded. So your animal looks retarded. In a good way! Also, digging the detail on the tower itself, and the lighting where the tail wraps around.
But I guess if you're going for silly > retarded, yeah, it's a little less silly.
Frick'n sweet tam. Foreshortening on the left arm is a bit odd. Looks like the line from his wrist doesn't go far enough back/down. Kinda confusin'. Otherwise though, I love it.
Dorito, why doesn't she have a butt crack IT'S COMPLETELY FLESHED OVER WHAT HAPPENED D;
p.s. Tynic I heart that painting. I agree that some very vague detail at the street level would polish up the piece, but it's a doodle and the atmosphere is still super great.
only men have butt cracks for shitting thats why. Women, doesnt matter if it sthere or not because being beautiful, they obviously dont shit.
you're not really looking at the reference to do the rendering, you're picking a direction for the light to come from (in this case mostly to the left) and then shading everything like it's a cylinder. If you look at the front of his jacket on our left, it is actually shaded in the reverse direction from what is on your piece, and it is much more of a flat tone in the reference anyway. On the arm on our right, you just made up the lighting, because there are parts of the upper arm that are almost completely in shadow, and yet there are some really bright highlights in yours. And again, on that arm, the lighting is the opposite direction of what's in the reference.
a general pet peeve of mine that I seem to have with your work wck, is that you shade every object as a gradient from dark to light, with both dark and light coming right up to the edges of the object, when in almost all cases, it should really be dark, light, dark. for example, look at the reference's lower arm on our right, particularly the cuff, there are dark edges with a subtle light in the middle. the dark edges imply the roundness of the form, adding depth. when the light goes right up to one of the edges, it flattens the object.
jpeg on
so I just type in this box and it goes on the screen?
Another after-class thingy. If you're wondering about the random superhero bonanza, I have a bunch of saved, unfinished photoshop sketches cluttering up my desktop, so I'm going through them, cleaning them up, and finishing them, for practice.
Also, I've had a recent obsession with Deadpool, went as him for Halloween.
Me as Deadpool. Sorry it's not a strict doodle but I figured y'all would get a kick out of it anyways. Totally put together myself from random shit.
A note to the wise about spandex: It hides nothing. It reveals everything. And even if you spend a couple of months prior trying to beef up a little, the constricted fit of the fabric shrinks your frame.
Yes, I do have a huge nose, thank you for pointing out my built-in windsail.
The swords are just the cheap ninja swords that cross on the back that you can get from Spirit or Halloween Express. No way I was bringing real swords around drunk people.

so i went and tried to color it, and I realized I have absolutely zero color theory knowledge, any help would be GREATLY appreciated on this!

Also try rounding out his snout more. Rounded = goofy while square = menacing.
You might also try getting rid of the back teeth.
