So the makeup artist for our movie (Lady Venom) and her assistant do a lot of fashion shows and junk and she invited me to her last one to take pictures because her regular picture-taking girl didn't show up.

I wanted to check out the scene because I'd never been to a fashion show before. To my surprise once I saw the outfits they were wearing I realized they were basically doing Derelict...recycled clothes and garbage etc. I laughed my ass off but no one got my joke and I don't think any of them have seen Zoolander. Anyway I got to see them all in their underwear and feel fancy and important.

She got us VIP tickets for the second night and me and my brother and friend showed up, some of us wearing plaid, and hobnobbed with all the fancy types in their fine suits and evening dresses while two-fisting Big Rock beer and commenting on all the art while stuffing our mouths with cheese. Social faux-paus were MADE but they all heard about our movie and no one makes movies up here so we were quite popular. We even bought some ART.

Anyway here are the pictures. My small contribution to the project was cutting out shapes of tinfoil to glue on the model's faces.

they come out in outlandish costumes and call them "lines" or whatever

like they make and sell them

but I have never seen a single person wear any of that shit EVER

    how do they even work

    how does fashion work

This was something I wondered about. I'm not sure how it works at the BIG, BIG shows but here is what went down:

You see that blue dress made out of sweaters? Someone bought that and they get to walk around in a "designer original" and they tell their friends about this girl's clothing boutique.

That box skirt? No one will buy that but it's more there for the art form. Like the fashion show is part art/play and part clothing sale.

couture is about the art of fashion
it's not meant to be wearable by the general public

it typically has some sort of overarching theme or message
the model is simply the canvas
which is why they're usually rail thin and extremely tall. like a human coat rack, none of what they have interferes with how the art is displayed.

modern fashion that you see people actually wearing is sometimes inspired by the art of runway shows
sort of like how... lots of commercial artists are inspired by the works of fine artists (and vice versa)

That's the dress she sold. One of my coworkers sister's bought it.

I actually was going to suggest/ask why they don't have some more plus size women etc. if they are trying to sell clothes to the crowd...since there are overweight women in the crowd and I think they would like something made for them too. I didn't get the chance but I'm moving in with her so I'll have plenty of time to pick her brain.

i can appreciate fashion and beautiful dresses and suits and clothing that looks good but this kind of fashion show just plays into the whole fucking zoolander thing and makes it seem like all fashion is a fucking circus like these idiots

the aesthetics of it are sometimes really really impressive to be fair
i'm not a huge fan of modern or fashion art either, but you have to appreciate some of it for the sheer effort and talent that goes into it

(some of it... not all of it.)

It looks like everyone was having a pretty good amount of fun, which is probably better than you can kind in most other fashion shows.

Also, off color eye shadow and lipstick are really awesome.

the models are typically hired through agencies by the hosts of the shows
so... ralph lauren has a slew of regular models that he uses

some models are used frequently by multiple high end designers and gain fame through runway (tyra for example)

Well I'll put it this way. I totally know where you're all coming from but after this show there were two more and they had regular clothing like suits and black dresses and it was BORING AS SHIT. This one was entertaining and funny.

I know that on some level stuff like this Derelict used to offend me but when I actually was at the show I preferred it to the regular clothes because it was more imaginative and interesting I guess.

So how does a model get fame on the runway, or at least for this type of show. The point is to look at the clothes and the overall message, and the model is just the canvas right? How does canvas get famous?

    not saying she's well adjusted!
just saying she got fame from runway!

also not saying i'm a huge fan of runway art
but i mean... i try to appreciate multiple forms of art for what they are, and i always try to keep in mind the amount of skill that had to be put into a piece to make it work, regardless of whether i like it or not.

art school has made me way too open minded
i need to go work on some commercial doodles.
