    Wrong.

TV basically stops for New Years, so almost everything starts after it.

The bulk of the next season (and by that I mean pretty much everything) starts in January. There's a few new seasons of pre-existing shows but as far as newly animated content goes, Durarara is by the guy who made Baccano so that will probably be worth checking out.

Bit too early to call though, but I will say that the odds are looking good for Qwaser and Chu-Bra being contenders for the worst of the season.

So I finally finished Secret of Blue Water last night. Sweet christ, what an awesome series. It reached near gurren lagann levels of epic near the end. It didn't even matter that the island and africa episodes were poorly animated filler (according to wiki Anno agrees) because the payoff was so sweet.

A couple interesting things that could have possibly influenced evangelion (Or maybe I'm just grasping at straws)
The giant life form known as Adam on board red noah that was the prototype for humans, also Electra's space suit looks a lot like a plug suit

If anyone is looking for some classic anime I absolutely recommend it. The first couple episodes might have you wondering where it's going, but once the nautilus shows up shit gets real very quickly. Captain Nemo is fucking bad ass, and the villain is one of the best I've seen so far.

Now my question is, can anyone recommend some other good shows from that time period (Late 80s-early 90s)? OVAs are fine too, my tastes are broad so I will watch just about anything but I prefer a bit of action.

I suspect I might be the one "thumbs up" behind Michiko e Hatchin, but hey, it's better than nothing.

Additionally, I'm going to push a recommendation for another excellent police show, the Patlabor TV series and OVA, which are both excellent (having been directing by Mamoru Oshii). It's a comedy-drama, heavy on the comedy, mostly light on the drama, police show which, while on the older side, has aged very well (especially when compared to episodes of Ranma 1/2, which came out at the same time).

The opening theme is son unbelievably late-eighties that it out Eighties the whole series by far.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v6Gy6_pm3s

Hells yes, I love Patlabor. Never did see the third movie, but the synopsis sounds pretty lame anyway.

Hmm, are the OVAs even available on DVD?

Yes they are, along with the TV series. The third movie was Wasted Thirteen, right? Not bad--actually, quite good, compared to the third movies for a lot of other series--but very non-Patlabor in feeling, unlike the first and second movie.

Great show. GOD, it reminds me how much I love 80's era anime intros.

Don't mind me just doing my usual chattering.

    Cross Game 34: :o
Methinks Adachi is setting up a love square which I can only approve! Poor Senda and that cousin though whose name I can't remember.

Kimi ni Todoke 8: KYAAAAAAAAAA KAZEHAYA SUTEKIIIIIIIIII~
I was half expecting Sawako to gather enough courage to call him by his first name and make his face all red. Ah well. Next time, Gadget. I wonder what our lady rival is up to this time.

Kobato 8: Great, I can already picture thousands of yaoi fangirls squeal with pleasure.
Oh Kobato, you're so naive, yet so adorable! The children at the daycare are little angels as well. Honestly it's unreal. I hope my kid is going to be as awesome as these kids.

    Kampfer 8: ahahahahahahahahahaha

Nyan Koi 8: Still best show of this season.

Saw a box set of RahXephon at Best Buy today. 26 eps + movie for 35 of the human dollars. Didn't quite spring for the blind purchase, though. Good deal, I take it? I remember some discussion of the show a while back, but it was often in the middle of evangelion talk and thus directly compared to it. How is the show in a vacuum?

$35 for the whole thing? Buy it so hard!

It's very well animated and has amazing music, expected as one of the main themes of the plot revolves around sound and music in particular. It's a bit mind screwy, but the end didn't need to be explained to me.

Also, Quon is, for the record, the correct way of portraying "cryptic bullshit girl." Damn near everything she says sounds like nonsense the first time you hear it, but if you just really think about what exactly she said you'll often go, "Ooooh, that's what she meant!"

    Also she's tremendously cute.

Yeah that ended pretty quickly it's not totally resolved yet but I admit it's left me wondering where they're headed next.

I sort of expected these random people letters earlier in the series.

There were some similar deliveries but not too many of them earlier on. I figure it's nearing time we find out more about Akatsuki given they send a couple of their people over to the beehive.

I'm half hoping they'll throw in some filler-ish stuff in the anime where they do random deliveries like in the excellent OVA.

Having recently watched it, I can say that Urusei Yatsura is a good watch, but in small doses. Each episode is stand-alone, and often contains some great humor and/or large amounts of WTF. It's 195 eps plus some feature-length films, so yeah. Definitely not something to marathon.

It wasn't supposed to be a popularity contest. The point was to create a diverse list of recommendations. Thus, a lot of good shows only got rec'd once or twice. I hope people don't start making rec lists just to give their favorite shows more "thumbs up". People could just go to myanimelist and sort by ranking for that.

This was pretty much my thought process so I recommended stuff nobody else did and didn't like the introduction of thumbs : (

But the myanimelist thing only barely works because it's surprisingly sparse on being able to sort things by groups for judging others and it wouldn't matter anyway because nobody will watch Cardcaptor Sakura and give it the 10 it deserves.

But if you find someone else who generally scores similarly to you their list can be a really good starting point for suggestions.
