Woohoo, ingredients obtained. Apparently it's still a little early in the season for some seasonal candies, at least at some stores.
Tonight or tomorrow I make a test batch. I have no problem with changing/barely following recipes when I cook, but baking is too much like alchemy for rampant improvisation. I worry that I'll add too much of the wrong reagent and BOOM no kitchen.
I'm comfortable enough with this recipe to mess around a bit though. Should be fun.

does anyone here have any experience in sending a cake through the postal service
Cookies baked and sent. We made a batch from a recipe that was sent to us as a forward (the fabled $250 Norsdstrom cookie, if anyone's gotten it) and they turned out to be delicious.
Made the first test batch of bars. P damn delicious. Used a large sized pan though(I somewhere around 14-15 by 8-9) Going to use a smaller pan so they're more thick next time.
so its been like two weeks and unless they just haven't said anything my dude hasn't gotten his cookies yet.
So if I don't hear from them by Wedensday I'm just gonna resend them.
before you do that, just have neville contact the dude or see if he's even logged in recently
no reason to resend them if you're dude just hasn't been online for some reason
or if he just hasn't thought to remark that he received them

okay im gonna make my cookies while im home for break
I made my test cake last night. DELICIOUS. Although upon reflecting this morning I realized that I wasn't supposed to put nuts in it for my exchangee. Oh well I will make another one.
I know it is a cookie exchange, and I haven't forgotten that. My people will get cake and cookies.

I also told my roommates to put them back in the box to take a picture later.
Which is true, but I also want to ensure they dont devour them in my absence.
Culdrasbit*h sent me the best peanut butter cookies I've ever had with some hershey kisses on top and chocolate-chip almond cookies that were even better.
I will be baking cookies and zucchini bread and mailing them out tomorrow. I told my friend in new mexico about me sending cookies and bread, and she demanded I send her some. So I will be mailing two packages tomorrow.

I was all torn between two options. The first is something I really like myself, but screwed up lat time I made. I think I know where the problem was, though. The other was to try to get one of my great-grandmas just so I could say "hey, this is my great grandma's recipe".
Now I'm all intimidated and thinking I should stick to something simple.

I'm really glad you liked everything, I was worried that the kisses would fall off of the peanut butter cookies. In the interests of full disclosure, I made the peanut butter ones and my wife made the chocolate chip almond (she just had to one-up me, they are amazing). Are we sharing recipes in here too or is that for the cooking thread?

wonderful shortbread with what I believe is a fig compote/jam on top
