So I'm hoping to see The Princess and the Frog tonight.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG3sIg05K58

It's a new hand-drawn musical in the style of the late 80's/early 90's Disney movies! For this reason, it is considered kind of significant. You may have heard of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8N-kIiELUA

I'm very excited. I'm a huge Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast fan. So if you like that kind of stuff, check it out. Also, check these out:

Disney wants to get a new traditionally animated film out every two to two and a half years now. The next one will be a Winnie-the-Pooh movie in 2011 and then The Snow Queen sometime after that. Though next year's Rapunzel will be a princess movie with Alan Menken-- basically 90's Disney without the ink.

So talk about the movie here, but please be mindful of SPOILERS, because not everyone here (including me) has seen it yet.

I'm pumped for more Disneyish Disney stuff, as opposed to the stuff they've done recently.

Saw it last night at the AMC in Dundas square.

Pretty great. A fine return to form.

The frog prince and the main character's best friend stole the show. I really wish they featured the villain more, but now that I think about it it's a good sign that I wanted to see more of this guy.

And the cutaway joke with the Crocodile? That was a fucking riot.

You should have learned to never doubt what Keith David is capable of.

Although he did just co-star in a movie with Steven Seagal where they fight post apocalyptic vampires

In all honesty this movie is gonna need all the help it can get, cause if it doesn't sell very well it could very well be the end of a return to traditional animation in cinema for quite some time.

If this makes stacks of cash, it might pressure other studios to start future forays back into traditional animation as well, and we could have another renaissance on our hands.

    So go see it.

    To be fair

Who cares if other studios make traditional animated features?

As long as Disney keeps doing it, I'm okay. ;)

They are doing a musical show at the Disney parks to promote this. They take the big paddleboats out to this good viewing point for the regular guests and then sing a bunch of the songs from the movie. I wanted to see the movie already, but hearing the music for it really got me pumped.
