All right, league set up on Yahoo, head-to-head. Draft date friday March 19 8:15 EDT. Can be changed if we get a better consensus.

Open to all, let's try to get at least eight and have it be an even number.

Yahoo also has live stat tracking free this year, so that's nice.

What brilliant OP images we now have.

Anyway, details on the impending Halladay/Lee/prospects trade(s).

    To summarize: (aka copy/paste)

    PHILLIES GET …
    RHP Roy Halladay (from Toronto)
    *RHP Phillippe Aumont (from Seattle)
    *OF Tyson Gillies (from Seattle)
    *RHP Juan Ramirez (from Seattle)
    $6 million cash (from Toronto)
    MARINERS GET …
    LHP Cliff Lee (from Philadelphia)
    BLUE JAYS GET …
    *C Travis d'Arnaud (from Philadelphia)
    *RHP Kyle Drabek (from Philadelphia)
    *1B/3B Brett Wallace (from Oakland)
    A'S GET …
*OF Michael Taylor (from Philadelphia via Toronto)

This is like the hugest trade ever. Two CY Young winners, some top frigging tier prospects, four teams. Dang.

Drabek could potentially be a stud, but he had tommy johns recently

Taylor was a stud last year although he is a big strikeout guy

All three of the prospects the Blue Jays now have out of that deal are considered pretty good. Drabek is still very highly regarded, #2 on the Phillies top prospects chart as of last month. D'Arnaud was #4 on that list. (Taylor was #3). Brett Wallace was also up there for the A's and overall.

So for getting prospects, you should be fairly pleased.

It seems that the Nats are looking at any pitcher out there, with the intent of signing at least two starters before spring training, one of them possibly a #2 starter.

They went and looked at Aroldis Chapman the other day and are talking about Joel Pineiro, Jon Garland and Jason Marquis as well.

A sure fire upgrade from the guy who dominated both leagues over the last two years and has a 1.56 post season ERA.

Yep! The only way to upgrade from that is get a guy who was slightly more dominant (in the AL East too) and lock him up long term.

As I understand it Lee was looking for an even longer term contract and that's why he was traded.

He is looking for CC-type money, which I don't think the Phillies can afford. So instead of "renting" him for the year and then letting him walk, they moved him to replenish the farm and get Halladay for the next 4-5 years.

Who knows, regardless if given the option of having Cliff Lee for 1 year, or probably slightly better than Cliff Lee for 4+ years, I'd take the latter.

I think my favorite part of the Halladay deal is that I'll actually get to watch him pitch at least one game. I mean, when's the last time the Blue Jays had a nationally televised game? They might have had some at some point but I'll be damned if I can remember. Hell, if he's pitching a game here against the Pirates I might actually decide to go see a game for the first time in a few years.

In other news, ESPN named Mariano Rivera its Cy Young of the decade. Which is just, well, another prime example of how closers are still overrated in the public perception.

Don't get me wrong, Rivera is probably the best closer of all time, but he's been nowhere near the most valuable pitcher in that span. Now obviously they are factoring in his postseason work, which was mighty impressive, but then again he had every single year but one to display his work, whereas certain starters such as Halladay and Santana just haven't had much opportunity in the postseason, but if you wanted to look at a stat like WAR, (at least since they started keeping track of it in 02) they both have at least double the value of Rivera, as does Sabathia. And they've actually won the award. Even Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez still have at least a dozen more WAR in that span.

    Oh well, it's meaningless.

Oh screw you, ESPN! The Pirates got totally shafted.

Blah blah blah, Yankees are the best team of the decade, whatever. But they named the EXPOS/NATIONALS as the worst team of the decade! That's ridiculous! The Pirates have clearly been the worst baseball team for the past 17 years, let alone the past decade. They give reasons like how the Expos moved and whatever, but come on.

Cubs trade Bradley for Carlos Silva

Surely now you will win the World Series next season.

EDIT: Haha, holy shit, why in god's name is Silva making $12 million? That is just...wow.
