Traditions!

My family has a lot of traditions this time of the year. There is always a night where we go get some Sonic and tour the neighborhood looking at Christmas decorations. We also have a family movie night, then a fella movie night. Christmas Eve dinner is always cold cuts and hoagie rolls with some sparkling grape juice.

Then at the other family we have a supposedly German Christmas. Instead of opening up gifts on Christmas morning we open them on Christmas eve night. We stay in our rooms until we hear bells, oh and then it's run downstairs for fun. Not sure if this is how it is supposed to be done, but hey that is how we do it.

Every year I build a snowman, sadly one year it was not so much made out of snow as it was chicken wire, starch and newspaper painted white. It turned out quite nice, and no kids knocked it over. Also once a year I go to a movie theater alone with a flask of southern comfort, and sip on that and just enjoy the movie.

What kind of traditions do you have? Alternatively what kind of traditions do you think you will want to start if you create a family?

Our new Christmas tradition (starting this year) is an 'ideal breakfast' and opening stockings. Bombs & I made eachother stockings (with a price limit) and I really look forward to sitting on the floor in our PJs like children with egg nog, crepes and stupid Christmas TV. The beginning of tradition!

Also we're going to cam with my parents. Should be cool.

our usual tradition is going to my parents' hometown on christmas eve where one side of the family lives
we go to the christmas eve church service with the candlelight singing of holy night.
then we go to our grandparents' house and eat either a dinner or a bunch of appetizers, eat cookies, and drink a bunch of wine.
my uncle hides some simpsons characters in the manger scene
then we open presents around 7-8 pm.
A Christmas Story is on in the background because it is tradition and my grandma hates it
then my cousin, sister, and I watch Elf (newer tradition)

but right now it seems we are not going there because driving 1.5 hours on unplowed wisconsin country roads with this snowstorm is a terrible idea

Back at my parents house we stuff ourselves to the breaking point on turkey, then kill time till midnight, usually watching whatever Christmas specials are on or whatever Christmas movie gets put in. At midnight we open up the presents.

Still working on making my own family traditions but living in Japan makes it odd. We do watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Original cartoon version) and Scrooged on Christmas Eve though.

    Bingo!

My family used to have the tradition where we would play Axis and Allies when we got together for Christmas.

It always would turn out the same say, my dad and I would always be winning, so my brother would start cheating, would get caught, cry about it complaining how we never trust him, then run off into his bed.

We are all older now, and it plays out pretty much the same when we do play, except we can't catch my brother cheating, he has become quite subtle about it.

Another one of my family traditions is going to the hospital.

On my dad's side we tend to get a bit rowdy, and usually someone breaks a bone, needs stitches, or gets a concussion. It became so bad one Christmas that the ER people started getting to know us.
