In hindsight, the 2000s were pretty interesting.

Every generation is going to say their decade is better than the other.

Indie just means "kinda fragmented." The days when we all listened to the same pop song on the radio are over.

Good indie: John Darnielle. And (so sue me) Conor Oberst.

If there's a highlight of the previous decade for me, it's America getting a black president. I really didn't expect to see that happen in my lifetime. Sad, but true.

Also, I it was about 11pm here when the first results started to come in, and I decided I'd sit up for an hour or two and watch the reactions on SE++. Seven hours later I was watching Obama's victory speech live and...had something in my eye. The posting here was absolutely priceless that night.

9/11 was a big moment for me too, but more because of what was going on in my own life than any impact it had on me or Ireland in general. I'd just moved out of home, and had started a new job. In information security, as it happens. That was a very weird time to start that career!

im looking forward to the winter olympics and the canadians being so nice that their hosting is considered better than the china summer games. but will that be in this decade or the next? but all and all this decade had some pretty great olympics, let alone all the other wonderful sporting events that came to pass.

also, green bubbles, looking forward to them like the first sighting of unicorns

this year will mark the point where under no circumstances should I have still been alive. So I made no real plans for this eventuality.

I have no exit strategy is what I'm saying. That's intimidating.
