From what I've read I think the feeling is that bringing heroin into the country is essentially killing the people end user of that supply, so you are a murderer for being a smuggler of dangerous goods. Not saying I agree, but I'm not in China.

shes just some poor innocent girl from a lower middle class background or whatever
such a tragedy
and then a few months later in a country with similar laws, could have been the same country, a much hotter, richer girl who was a supermodel or something got arrested for drug possession because she had like 1 pill of somethin in her handbag
no one gave a shit about her though

I can still remember the outrage when that American kid got busted for spray painting graffiti in Singapore and the punishment was getting caned. I liked Singapore's response, which was basically showing signs that clearly indicate in multiple languages that if you deface public property, including spray painting graffiti, you will get your ass beaten with a bamboo stick. Signs that were in the area this douchebag spray painted in.
We need more public beatings in this country to curb punk crime. Also, we should kill people who smuggle heroin, especially if they are fucking crazy people who smuggle heroin.

I'm not saying I disagree with you, but given, if true, that outlook of the suppliers are killing the users by giving them access, and given that professional lawmakers from a different culture are saying it, your opinion is wrong when applied to the chinese government.
Unless you are a Chinese lawyer and not telling us, then you might have a point.
Also if you were in charge of over a billion people and their tax money you might start looking at how much cheaper it is to kill criminals than to house them.
