Daniel: It's due on Monday so much work to do. I also have 2 final projects due tomorrow (1 is finished, 1 almost) and one of my clients is breathing down my neck to get assets finished this week too. So I'm hoping for a Christmas miracle at this point urggggh
there'll be lots of pics when thus puppy gets installed. This project is my little baby for this semester
wow...we're really winding down to the end of this thread eh?
Ever have an idea for a drawing in your head that you just know you're not ready to tackle yet?
so you leave it and it nags at you for weeks or months or years?
I've had this idea in my head for about a year and a half.
It's simple and you're probably all thinking "really? that's it? laaame" but I didn't feel my work had the right flow for something like this, and I wasn't good enough at designing characters that had significant character.
So anyways, I decided after working on some freelance that I was ready to give it a go, and I'm really quite proud of the results, it turned out basically just as I imagined it, and that's a great feeling.
Of course it's not perfect, nothing is, so I'd be happy to take suggestions and feedback as always
It's definitely influenced by fifties animation stylings. Sort of a mashup of Warner brothers, UPA and Disney. 50s style artwork is definitely my favorite across the board. Illustration animation and fine arts collided into incredible styles and I love it so hard.
Love it Beavs, especially the way this shows a lot of considered restraint -- i.e. it's not overdone! great work.
My personal preference would be to fill the edge of the double bass in black. For me, having the inner edge black and the outer edge left unfilled is trying to bring an element of 3D to the illustration which isn't present anywhere else; it stands out too much and would look better black.
Just my thoughts though! I certainly can't suggest it's wrong as it is.
thanks guys! and thanks grenn for the tip, I see what you mean.
I'm working on a few more things in this style
it's so simple and pared down, it's the perfect technique for me to practicing giving characters loads of character.
The one and only thing I see here that could use a tweak is the kid with the tuba. Particularly his arms... one of which looks like a golf club and the other looks kinda like it's growing out of his head. At first glance, to me, it just seems off even within the style. Maybe make them just a little more arm-like and I know it's a bit busy around the left side of his noggin, but I think it would be good to separate his head from his arm a little more right there.
oh that is ADORABLE
I think the size comparison between his arms and legs looks a little strange though. I wonder how it would look if his arms were a little smaller.
man my "style" doesn't seem to exist anymore.
I mean, I feel like I have some recognizable traits (mostly flaws) But I really seem to be reaching for nothing in particular and everything all at once.

I am disappointed!

it's total 50s warner brothers
witches disappearing in clouds of hairpins
all it's missing is Moose and Squirrel and it could be straight from Rocky & Bullwinkle
They cast a shadow like a sundial in the morning light. It was half past 10.
I was getting something more along the lines of this

I want to marry this picture and have thousands of beautiful grumpy baby vultures.
I'm liking that vulture. Especially that ridge on his/her neck. I'm not quite sure why.
the entire time i was making him, i kept thinking "what sort of bird would doctor house be?"
