Still The Real [Final Fantasy Thread]

Happy NEW FINAL FANTASY THREAD

A thread about Fantasy's that are Final. Not Phantasy. Not Dragon Quest. Not Lost Odyssey. Certainly not Wild Arms, Legend of Dragoon, Blue Dragon, or Star Ocean. No The Last Remnant or Infinite Undiscovery. Not even Kingdom Hearts (You want a KH thread, that's fine, go make one.

You can however talk about:

Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy V
Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XI
Final Fantasy XII
Final Fantasy XIII *NEW, So try not to spoil.
Final Fantasy XIV

and the Poor Unfortunate Spin-off games.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Final Fantasy X-2
Dirge of Cerberus
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronics: Rings of Fate
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2: Grimoire of the Rift
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years:
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time
Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord.
Final Fantasy Gaiden: 4 Warriors of Light
Final Fantasy:Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers.

I guess if you really want to you can talk about the Mana game released under the FF Adventure title or the three SaGa games released under the FF Legends Banner.

Anything about the games above is fair game.

This time around I'm going to do retrospectives on some of the missed titles. Basically the entire CC line besides the first one, After Years, Crisis Core, someone who truely loves the game and proves their worth to the thread can do Dirge, someone who has played more than a demo can do Crystal Defenders if they want. If one of you crazy importers can handle it they can do FF XIII.

I keep playing FF1. I can't stop. I build these bullshit parties and always manage to win somehow. Actually I just quit once I kill Tiamat. The Chaos Temple can fuck itself.

Sometimes I'll build a nice, simple, no frills party in FF1 (NES version of course) and get really ticked off when my white mage eats it on floor two or three.

    Here's the strategy:
Make sure Vanillia has the Death ability.
Make a party with Vanillias the leader, a defender and a healer (I used Fang and Hope).
If you have it, equip the staff that increases the success rate of the death skill.

Now, before heading into battle use up a barrier and power smoke. You can't get a pre-empetive strike, so forget about using a smoke grenade. Once in battle you should be able to hold out long enough to cast the death spell ten or so times. It took me around 5 or so tries to win, but it certainly can be done.

And, you're not really going to be hurting for it until the post-game. I can see why you want it though.

I picked up my dusty DS the other day to play some FF3, and I remembered why I love this franchise so much.

Then I got killed by a fucking giant eagle-man boss when he lightning-struck my party of Rogue/WM/2x Dragoon to death in two turns.

... I fucking hate this game.

I gathered, but christ, how much sodding grinding outside am I meant to do before I can kick this guy in his feathered arse? I've been grinding so long I maxed out my Rogue's class level, and the White Mage is in the late seventies. D:

I think you can get four spears and a ton of armor just by exploring the town throughly. Also, I do think that one of the weapons stores is open.

Hmm. I guess I need to buy some more smokes then.

edit: And yeah, I figured if I can get it before fighting more bosses, given the ridiculous amount of CP they give, that'd be nice.

Also, the opening cutscene for chapter 11 (closing of 10?) is INSANE.

I just accidently deleted my PSP FF1 save where I had everyone at level 99, just before the final boss (in case I wanted to beat his ass again.) At least I have a reason to play it again, as I love this game.

For now. We'll see how long that lasts when they realize it's been in production all this time, and they essentially wasted plenty of time putting most of the Versus team to work on the Main 13 to let Versus just kind of sit there. (Unless they managed to move forward with the game with a fraction of the team?)

But it might stay exclusive, who knows.

They've been pretty adamant about it.

I can't help thinking the numbers that come out of FFXIII on 360 will play a role in deciding the ultimate fate of that exclusivity though.

From what I've been able to gather, it's a very interesting world with a cool main character, of a type that doesn't usually appear in typical JRPGs. Lots of exciting events involving his telekinesis powers, weapons, airships, and other wild battles.

And, it's all ruined by the typical sloppy waggle controls that plenty of Wii games suffer from. I've heard after you realize you can't really pull off anything cool when you want to, the game nosedives really fast.

The trailers and vids looked really cool, though.

I feel like there are few developers who can match Square Enix in the realm of making it abundantly clear how much they care about a given game.

edit: To be clear, I'm including how well they show us when they don't give a flying fuck about a game, say, pretty much the entire Mana and Crystal Chronicles line.
