That is how I remember TFTD. One death is actually pretty good.
Ferrus on
I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.
The Actives had their first mission today! They all came back from the sub and we didn't see them for a while (trainees aren't allowed in the squad's bunks), but at chow we all crowded around while they told us about the mission. They told us they took out an entire ship! Those Aliens didn't even know what hit 'em I bet, haha.
While they were telling us about the mission I asked where [Censored pending notification of next of kin] was, and they all got real quiet. He wasn't coming back, they said. I didn't know what to say. I've never known anyone who bought it before. They said he was ambushed by a group of Aliens that were hiding behind some rocks and that he managed to take out six of them before they took him down. It must have been horrible, being so far beneath the sea and dying like that, but it was a brave and valiant death, and at least he went down fighting. I said that I considered a death like that to be honorable, and that I considered him nothing less than a hero, and the actives all got quiet and just sort of looked at each other. It looked to me like a silent agreement.
I mean, he is the first human to be killed in action undersea. His valiant death will let the Aliens know that we mean business, that they can't just shoot us down at random anymore.
I gotta go (we're doing marksmanship training in a little bit), but I just want you guys to know that I love you, and please don't worry about me. I am glad that I signed up, and even though I'm so far away from home the one thing that makes it all worthwhile is that I am making a difference down here.
Augh, I just gave TFTD another whirl. I was super-cautious the entire way until a sectoid wanders out from cover, lazily tosses a grenade and waltzes off again.
It was perfectly aimed to instakill four of my dudes.

Where's the base located? What's the reports look like? Research? MANUFACTURE? OH GOD WHERE IS THE INFORMATION IF WE ARE TO SAVE OUR PLANET?!
You should never have more than 4 troops in a 10x10 space.
One sonic pulser and you're dead.

Bad news is, you all died on a terror mission.
Good news is the game crashed before the end of the mission so you all live!
