Shut up you guys, D&D did this shit in one of their threads and we don't need it here.
Though, on the idea of game of the decade, the easiest way to do it would be to take the top results from the past 10 years and have those voted on (rather than every freaking game ever).

Yeah, but the polls only go back to 2004.
It would be fun to have a fresh vote.

I don't think it'd be nice to ask mcc to go through that effort.

Eh, he's not busy*.
*HE IS INCREDIBLY BUSY but running a poll doesn't require that much, if someone else is coming up with the list and he has the framework ready.

I don't know either to be honest...this past decade has seen the birth of some amazing franchises (Ratchet & Clank) and games that should have been franchises (Beyond Good and Evil).
It's been the best of decades and the worst of decades.
The problem is that there are always going to be people who cannot see past the current gen graphics, improvements to gameplay, etc. How do we take games that were great when they came out, and have had sequels that fixed things and were better? It's not fair to the other game to completely nix it from voting, because it was fantastic at the time, but if we vote on all games based on how good they were at the time we might as well just stare at the lists from the past ten years and not do anything with them.
Besides game of the decade was obviously Mass Effect
Oh god. I don't want to live in a world where WoW is considered the best game of the past ten years.
Have you played it? A lot of people despise it on principle, but it is extremely well designed. You could call it the best game solely on how well it manipulates the player and provides constant incentive and reinforcement to play.

Which isn't a design strategy that works for everyone.
I, for instance, have become so sick of that design ethos that I no longer pay attention to anything Blizzard do.

I played it long enough to hit 70 when that was the cap, and do plenty of raiding. I wouldn't even call it the best MMO of the decade, let alone best game.
It was very polished, but also very boring. Were it not for wanting to play something with friends who were addicted, I never would have stuck with it. Actually, when I first bought it at or near release, I never made it past level 20 and gave my account to someone on another forum who wanted to play but couldn't afford the $50 purchase price. Only the desire to play with friends brought me back and kept me with it long enough to play through so much of the content.

I didn't say you should call it the best because that style appeals to you, you call it the best because it is best at capturing an audience's attention, even if that audience is not you.
As was said above, perhaps it's better to call it defining.

That would only be true if there was a year 0 AD, which there isn't.

OoT wasn't released in this decade, so it wouldn't even be up for voting.
A game of the decade vote would be neat, but I'd have absolutely no idea how to rank my choices.
It's been the best of decades and the worst of decades.

Released on December 12th, 1999.
Which is a shame, as it would have made a great #2, between Deus Ex and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Either way, a poll would be pointless.
