January Boston Meet-up? Road-trip to Funspot?

UPDATE: We have set a date for the January Meet-up, which will be held at the American Classic Arcade Museum at Funspot in Laconia, NH on Saturday, January 30th. This will require some folks to provide transportation as Funspot is approx. an hour and a half north of Boston. I can provide space for 4 (myself +3). If you are planning to attend, please post so we can coordinate rides. Once we have a confirmed number, I will contact the folks at Funspot about trying to snag some free tokens for those in attendance.

So the meet-up at the Video Game Orchestra concert tonight was a blast and I am pumped for the next round. Anyone want to take the lead for a January gathering? Anyone have any ideas for what we can do? H.e.e.l.s. mentioned that he has never been to Funspot. I wonder if we set up a little road trip if we can get him back to the Boston area in January. Taking a trip up to Funspot would require some coordination on transportation, but could be a load of fun. If not in January, then maybe for the February meet-up. If this sounds like too much work, let me know what other folks want to do.

Understood. It was just an idea that I got after talking to h.e.e.ls. last night. My thoughts were if we got enough folks who could drive (I myself could take 3 people) we could caravan up there. If you have never been, it is definitely worth the drive. During the summer, I find myself up there several times a month to meet friends and play games. Anyway, let's see how many folks would be willing and interested.

If a road trip to Funspot doesn't work for everyone, then let's get some other ideas rolling.

Just out of curiosity, did someone change the prefix for this thread to "misc"? Could have sworn I listed it as "East". No big deal if they did, just want to make sure I am marking my posts correctly.

Yeah I did that. Community meetups that aren't during or immediately adjacent to PAX are supposed to be Misc.

I'm in Vegas from jan 9th til the 14th. but i'm staying up in waterville valley at the end of the month. I've never heard of Funspot, but if its not far from where ever i'm staying at waterville, i'd be up to going.

Hey Spy, Funspot is about 25 miles from Waterville. Definitely worth the trip if you are in the area. Is anyone else interested? If not, then what other activity makes sense for a January meet-up?

Funspot looks awesome, never been there as well as never been to that area so I'd be down. We could also arrange a trip dumpster diving in the back of hospital dumpsters.

Hm.... Funspot looks entertaining, although I see transportation being an issue. I myself don't have a car, but would be willing to take the T somewhere if a ride were available.

Or I could rent a car for the day and split the cost with other city-dwellers if we can get 2-3 more people interested.

I'll check some events calendars to see if there's anything else that could be fun enough in Jan.

Sigh, this is when I truly regret the death of arcades... :?

Well, I am willing to drive 3 others up to Funspot, four if I can borrow my girlfriend's car (provided she doesn't want to join us). I say let's plan it and see who comes, particularly if there is nothing else slated for January.

Sorry I have been out of the loop for a while folks. Crazy busy holidays. Anyway, are we going to do the January Meet-up at Funspot or what? If in, what date works best for everyone? My schedule is filling up fast and the only days I have free are Fridays or Saturday, January 30th. So I am thinking we try to shoot for the 30th. Does this work for everyone? Who is in? I can drive three folks plus myself. If we can get a confirmed list of people, I may also be able to secure some free tokens for folks via my contacts at FS (no promises, but I will try).

Any idea how long you plan on staying ar funspot? I'll be up near there for a company meeting and was thinking about stopping by on my way home. Of course, weather I'll actualy show up depends how long the meeting lasts. :P

I was planning on playing it by ear since the turnout seems like it might be pretty low (we currently have four people committed to joining us). I am willing to stay as long as everyone else wants to and can leave at any time in the morning.

Which brings me to the question: for those going on Saturday, where do you want to meet? For those who need a ride, if you can take the commuter train to Winchester Center, I can pick you up there. I live in Woburn (next town over) and we can use my place as a launching point. Did I mention that I have my own collection of con-op games that we can warm up on?

So does this work for everyone? If you are driving and need directions, pm me and I will shoot you my address.

So who else is in? I you have never been to Funspot and love arcade games (both classic and contemporary), you owe it to yourself to check this place out.

I am definitely going. planning to leave between 8 and 9 am. Funspot opens at 10 am. If anyone needs a ride, I can pick you up at the Winchester Center Commuter Station. Will have to check schedules later to see what would work best.

Not sure if heels is still planning to go, haven't heard from him in a week or so. (Heels, you still on for this?)

Haven't had anyone confirm that they are still going as of 8 am this morning. I will hang around a little bit and probably head up about 9:30 with some local friends. Ride still available if anyone wants to go with.

Even though Funspot is wicked outta the way for anyone visiting PAX east. I highly recommend it. I grew up on that place and their 80's section and wall of pinball is quite amazing. Sorry to hear this just happened as any reason / excuse is a good reason to hit Funspot up!
