Speaking of turn based games with an emphasis on strategy I wonder if they ever made a proper league system for blood bowl.
You mean other than fumbbl?
I mean the blood bowl game they put on a while back.
Also brb buying plane tickets to New York.
I didn't really play more than a couple games of that online, but it seemed to me like their league system worked pretty well? Fumbbl is I guess the gold standard, but from what I understand the open leagues there go on indefinitely so everyone is playing a ridiculously high-value team.
I can't stand diet sodas. Just not used to the taste. I don't order soda very often anymore though. And the one place that I tend to these days imports their coke so its sugar and not HFCS so I am spoiled.
started when i had a bit of a weight problem and now i find i can't stand the taste of normal cola
Yeah, personally I've grown accustomed to diet soda.
People joke about ordering a cheeseburger with a diet soda, but I'm that guy, not because I care about the calories of that particular meal but because I prefer the taste of diet.
BTW, best diet soda: Barqs.
i will go into a place
order a double burger with bacon and cheese, plus fried onions and fried mushrooms on it
there really isn't anything bad about soda that isn't abundantly clear from the chemicals involved (that much sugar is bad for your teeth if you don't take care of them, that level of acid can cause stomach ulcers in some people, etc.)
There's no secret "whammies" with soda like it will give you testicular cancer by 40 or something. If you drink a lot of cola, and I mean a lot, it probably won't do nice things to your teeth or stomach. And, unless it's some kind of sugar-free cola, it's gonna help make you a fatty.
also, caffeine is addictive as fuck and not really good for you and being a caffeine addict is a bad thing
but anything else you hear about the secret health hazards of cola is bullshit
I am just the type of person who has an easier time not touching something than mediating my use of it, especially when it's something I like a lot. and damn I love soda.

It's been a while so I forget the exact issues but...oh yes I just remembered. The way the league system worked was that you had to play like ONE other specific team. If that guy didn't come on or you lived in opposite time zones you'd never get your league game in and you were basically screwed.
The issues were so bad that I created an entire PA league system and PA league wiki page and created rules and had people PM me match results and I updated the wiki page etc for like two months before it was just too much work and I passed it off it someone else.

You have to say it with the rage of someone who has their gay lover in a headlock, full of rage that your secret will be exposed to the all-boys school. He is there, your first real love in life, your first real hatred in life, love for his aedonoic beauty, hatred for his will to let that love speak its name. He is there, in all his splendor and frailty, in this empty locker room, towel ripped off in the fight, eyes drowning in fear and lust
I just wish it wasn't such a poor genre for online play.
I actually like play by email style systems (though an in game version of this would be better). As it allows you to run multiple games at once and take plenty of time with your turns while not requiring you to sit in front of your computer for like a 5 hour game where you spend most of it waiting.
That was the problem when [chat] got into wesnoth and we tried like a six player game. SO much waiting.
Every time I've tried to do play by email the game peters out after a few weeks.
what murders play-by-post/play-by-email games is combat.
because using a system intended for tabletop gaming for PBP/PBEM results in combat that takes forever to resolve single rounds. that's generally where interest dies.
for role-playing games, the only thing that should be done PBEM is narrativist stuff

imported cola with real sugar is the only normal cola i can handle anymore
HFCS tastes gross. i don't care about what hippies think of its secret poisonous nature, i think it's nasty and not a replacement for real sugar!
if my choice is between HFCS and aspartame in my cola, i will choose the latter. if i get the option for real sugar, i'll go for that instead

I can see that.
A friend of mine is having a lot of success using Google Wave for roleplaying.
I was talking more about turn-based strategy computer games like Civ, though.

You really owe it to yourself to at least try it. I don't know what it would be like to be playing the game for the first time now, but it really was/is a fantastic game.
The "big meal with a diet coke" thing is ok as a joke, but as an actual criticism it's pretty fucking ridiculous.
Seriously. A large coke at a fast food place has what, 400 calories? That's easily 1/3 of the total calories listed for a combo meal.

I thought the stereotype comment was that Podly felt the need to say hey wait everyone, we're talking about coffee so do you all know that if you like a certain drink one way you're wrong? just making sure.

lately I've been looking into the Fate System (used by the RPG Spirit of the Century) as a possible game system to use for a PBP game, because it's more narrativist and less concerned with things like "hit points" or whatever.
the Fate SRD has things like "scene-based combat" where you resolve the mechanics of a combat scene in like 1 or 2 rolls per participant and that lets you establish who "wins" and who gets to narrate the course of events.

no i was saying that podly is basically an aristocrat from Victorian times, transported to our era

Oh, right. Yea, it was good for keeping people on roughly the value level but had a hideously low fault tolerance. Fumbbl is open-scheduling AFAIK.

i like that
Sounds neat.
Google Wave works well because you can do combat in real-time but let people do non-combat RPing at their own pace.
Edit: and there are die-rolling widgets and I think somebody's working on a map widget.

I suppose that you could also eat a nice chateaubriand or porterhouse well done, too.
There are multiple ways to enjoy espresso. For instance, I don't like sugar in mine, but that's just one way to serve espresso. However, the crema contains the best tasting part of the roast. It's where the best taste is. And yet you'd be surprised at how many people do not know this. So I brought it up.

the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
Alpha Centauri is good. Basically identical to Civ games, except the setting, of course.

Hair growth rate differs from person to person, genetics and probably diet, along with age, plays a role I'm sure.
If you really want the extra length, can you get extensions or anything?
Serious question, I don't know how this stuff works.
yes!
