This shit is quality. It looks good and it lasts.
It's more expensive than your typical pair of jeans, but for the right reasons: it takes extra time and extra effort to make it in the right way. And because it's a tighter weave that doesn't need stitching, it can last much longer.
So you might not have a closet of the stuff. But you could have one pair. One special pair.

Shuttle looming is a more time-consuming weaving process that produces denim of a tighter weave resulting in a heavier weight fabric that lasts.
Shuttle looms weave a more narrow piece of fabric, and thus a longer piece of fabric is required to make a pair of jeans (approximately 3 yards). To maximize yield, traditional jean makers use the fabric all the way to the selvage edge. When the cuff is turned up the two selvage edges, where the denim is sewn together, can be seen. The selvage edge is usually stitched with colored thread: green, white, brown, yellow, and red (red is the most common). Fabric mills used these colors to differentiate between fabrics.

Except I think the pattern on that first suit picture is sort of terrible. Unless your goal is to look like Gene Kelly from the beginning of 'Broadway Melody' or Professor Harold Hill, in which case, by all means.

I had a pair of slacks hemmed, and I forget how much it was, but I think it was like $4-8 or so. Definitely worth it.
depending on how it's made it might not be able to be altered directly. But they can usually at least put "darts" where they pin some material to the back seams so it pulls the material in for a tailored look.

If I'm wearing a dress shirt with button down collar casually, and have the top button of the shirt unbuttoned, does it look better to have the collar buttoned or unbuttoned?
I've typically gone for unbuttoned in the past, but I'm really not sure

I would like to get a nice suit some time and have it tailored, but that is a ways off. I guess every man is supposed to own a couple of suits, right? I own two, they are second hand from the closeted gay son of my parents' friend and seem to fit pretty well. They have pretty thin lapels, not sure if I like that or not.
