I love the design, though I should say:

When I was a kid with an extremely short attention span, I was convinced that Corn Pops were my favorite cereal even though I had never, ever tried them (and my mother wouldn't buy them, due to their sugar content).

    Why?

They had a cartoon cactus on the cover just shooting the Corn Pops right into your face! The lettering (which is the same to this day) also just jumps right out at you:

    corn_pops.jpg

If you wanted to make a box that jumped right out at kids, I'd just add a few extra touches of flair.

it's not about appealing to kids in the 80s
i specifically went for 1950's style design
which was not about "hey kids, this is extreme cereal!"
it was about wholesome little characters and simple hand lettered fonts like helvetica paired with scripted hand lettered fonts.
look up "50's packaging design" this is my inspiration, you're looking at stuff that started mainly in the 80s and continued on through the 90s

    Thats a pretty awsome project.

Now that Ive seen the pictures I cant help think this would be an awsome "premade gift box" kind of thing. Market it as a toss your gift in the box and boom its wraped kind of thing.

    Crap! Youre absolutely right.

And then the kitties wouldnt have anything to play with.

    I retract my previous statement.

    EDIT:

UNLESS the person you are giving the gift to has a fear of disorder/untidyness (Ataxophobia) or paper (Papyrophobia).

On a side note it appears the two fears that have the most names to accompany them are the fear of cats and female genitalia.

We live in a very odd world.

My only crit would be to simplify that nose. Too many lines competing and intersecting there I reckon. It's too tight for my liking. Makes my skin crawl.

These are swank! I think a more fun pattern could have been used for the guy's chesthair. perhaps there's a away to make the top of the fox stand out too. Deep red is hard to use as a background because black just dissapears into it,, perhaps using a white line or negative shape. Or slightly lighter BG.
