If you like Question Time, you will love the replay of the Q&A this morning.

EDIT: I *really* hope someone identifies the yahoos who started clapping when this line got dropped:

Obama: 'The way some of you are describing it [HCR] is like I was proposing some sort of...Bolshevik plot, or something.'

    <woo!> <clapclap>

Obama also acknowledged and accepted blame for the limited transparency in the last step in the process.

[paraphrasing]: "It's a ridiculously complex process across many buildings and offices, but I should have worked harder to make it possible to document."

More importantly, he gave a lot of them an out to vote with the Democrats. I can see the campaign ads now:
"I took the President to task on [issue], and got the answers and action you demanded. I voted for it, and now you're starting to see the benefits."

Honestly this will not matter unless its picked up by the daily show, then the colbert report... and tomorrow by regular news stations, depending on how they spin it. But it makes me so glad to see/hear obama getting feisty.

I think Alec Baldwin needs to give his Glenn Gary speech to the democrats.

Saint Reagan is an ideal in the party not an actual party platform, as his ideals don't currently line up with his supporters. In a way he has become a lot like the Jesus to republicans, something you use to justify a line of thought they themselves would not support.

Obama's Q&A is Politico and the NYT's main story. Honestly, the stories don't do it justice. Some of the stuff he said (off the cuff, mind you, no teleprompters) was awesome.

IMO Obama is trying to shame Republicans into breaking ranks by pointing out how absurd it is what they're doing. Now you may think that Republicans have no shame, but what if even one of them (in the Senate) does? The odd Republican here and there across the country has broken ranks, the their party is polling in the toilet. I can't imagine purple state Republicans are happy about this situation, and someone could get a whole lot of national press if they're the first to break ranks.

    Here comes a sports analogy!

The GOP is playing the offside trap and pushing their line higher and higher up the field. It works until it doesn't. It's even a socialist (soccer) sports analogy.

It is also a moot point unless they think that the Supreme Court is suddenly going to decide that it is constitutional. It is like being willing to compromise on flag burning at this point.

Obama also returned to his point of how the polls have shown that individual stimulus components are popular, but not the total plan itself -- pointing out directly how this relates to GOP members of Congress. "As I said a lot of you have gone to ribbon cuttings for the same projects that you voted against," said Obama. "I say all this not to re-litigate the past, but it's simply to state, the component parts of the recovery act are consistent with what many of you say are important things to do."

"I am not an ideologue. I'm not," Obama also said."It doesn't make sense if somebody could tell me you could do this cheaper and get increased results, that I wouldn't say 'great.' The problem is, I couldn't find credible economists that would back up the claims that you just made."

Here's the transcript for those who can't or don't want to watch the entire thing.

If something like this had been done last July/August, I think things would be a lot different. At this point, however, Repub's fortunes are tied with Obama's failure, especially with regard to healthcare.

Still, it's awesome to watch him call them on their shit, even if nothing comes of it. It's a nice palate cleanser after a few shitty political weeks.
