    Here's an idea to increase the amount of loot the average person gets, while at the same time kicking idling in the balls.

    Decrease the drop periods by like x4 or x5, but cut down the hours per day that are counted.

    So like right now you can "play" for 24 hours a day, with a 25% chance of getting an item every 25 minutes (which would average out to ~14 items per 24 hours played), and a 3.5714% every 4 hours, 17 minutes, and 10 seconds. (which averages out to about 1/5th of a hat per 24 hours played)

    With this new scheme, you'd, say, get a 25% chance of a new item every 5 minutes, but only for around five hours, after which you'd no longer get items for the rest of the day. You'd wind up with an average of 15 items for that period. Similarly with hats, you'd now just have like a 5% chance of getting a hat every hour, so you'd wind up with a 25% chance of getting a hat on a given day. (These figures are provided you play for a full five hours of course).

    Idlers could still idle, but the wouldn't be much better off than people who play the game a lot. And people who only put a couple hours into the game every couple of days will amass items much faster than they did before.

    This is, of course, provided if Valve isn't willing to.. er.. drop the drop system entirely. Or give idlers ludicrous amounts of drops.
