It looks better not having to rotate the squares of course cause you can read them and they don't get artifacts.
But the river is on the wrong edges now so you can't do that. Just rotate and we can figure it out, it's mainly so we can place things until Blarney updates. :^:

Each player adds a piece to the board (the first player simply placing down any tile on his first turn), making sure that the added tile touches at least two hexes on the pre-existing board (except for the first player), and that there are no touching restricted-movement borders.
It's touching three.

Oh. That rule is incomplete. Two hexes of the tile have to touch as well. Full rule
When placing a map tile, it must be placed so that two areas (hexes) of the tile touch at least two different areas of previously placed map tiles.

It's now on Kias to place the home realm setup markers. Here are the rules:
Once all tiles have been placed, Kias will decide the locations of the home realms, ensuring that they are connected to the map by at least three free-movement edges and are all at least four areas apart (exception: one pair is allowed to be only three hexes apart). Then, starting areas will be selected, starting with admanb.
Note that the home realm marker counts as the 0th hex, so you start counting from the board itself. One marker at 0608/0708 and one at 0603/0703 would be legal, for example.
Also note that you count the most direct route between two areas. This is an odd map, but I've found at least one setup that works.

I don't get the feeling there's much annihilation in this game. The objective seems achievable with a wide variety of approaches, to the point where it seems the main purpose of aggressive play would be to stop a run at victory, rather than to achieve one.
My, you guys have been productive. Thanks for doing the provisional maps, admanb.
Map Setup
Current Map
As noted by admanb, Kias will decide the locations of the home realms, ensuring that they are connected to the map by at least three free-movement edges and are all at least four areas apart (exception: one pair is allowed to be only three hexes apart). Then, starting areas will be selected, starting with admanb.
Home realms are as follows:
admanb - Daqan Lords Infidel - Uthuk Y'llan El Skid - Latari Elves Kias - Waiqar the Undying
Admanb will be swimming in resources, if we let him, and Skid has access to two cities right off the bat, which could be huge, depending on which ones he gets over there.
Infidel is set to be in ore heaven, so we can expect chaos lords early if he can get those dragons out of the way, and both of us are in easily defended terrain. I have the least resources at my gate, but I also have the least resistance getting out into the field, giving me first dibs on early expansion.
Map creation has been completed and cities have been placed. Players obtain the amount of tactics cards and influence specified for their faction along with two Quest cards and one Objective of their faction’s alignment. PMs will be going out shortly with drawn card text.
Each player receives one stronghold, starting units according to all their starting resources, and a hero of the faction’s alignment. These are placed in the players’ home realms, as well as two dragon runes and one false rune. Send me a PM specifying the locations you wish to place your dragon runes and false rune, keeping in mind that there may be at most one rune per location. Figure and stronghold placement may be done in the thread.
Current Map Figures to be Placed
El Skid - Latari Elves
2 Archers, 1 Sorceress, 1 Warrior, and Good Hero Ronan of the Wild.
admanb - Daqan Lords
2 Footmen, 1 Bowman, 1 Knight, and Good Hero Runewitch Astarra.
Kias - Waiqar the Undying
2 Reanimates, 1 Skeleton Archer, 1 Necromancer, and Evil Hero Varikas the Dead.
Um... maybe? There are icons in the first post under Races and Units and Hero information under Heroes and Quests. Zoom in if anything is difficult to see.

Spring Season Card: Long Winter
Each player may only retrieve 2 of his Order cards (instead of 4) with this card’s secondary ability. The other 2 cards still affect the player’s Supremacy Bonuses this year.
Since there have not been any Order cards played yet, there is no effect.
Spring Season Secondary Ability: Retrieve Order cards, retrieve activation tokens, unrout all figures.
Since this is the first turn of the game, there is no effect.
All players should now send me a PM with their selection of Order card to play for this season. If you would like to 'pre-load' actions for your turn, that may be done as well.

Due to my mistake, that would put a mountain in contact with a (properly rotated) river...
How it should look:
Okay then. How about 5A on 903, 5B on 904?
Kias to place.
1B to 0607
And my own placement: 6A on 0707, 6C on 0908
Infidel to place.
Doesn't that leave only one of the hexes touching the current board? :P
It's touching three.
Let's do this then!
4A on 0806 / 4B on 0906
El Skid is active for the last piece.
