So you might ask to yourself: why haven't I seen screenshots from the new LOTRO expansion?
Well, that's because Mirkwood is a bit like it is described by Tolkien: All that is beautiful is long gone from what was once called Greenwood.
handstand time!
There's still neat stuff.
Like chernobyl!
And dramatically big moon for the an epic story quest (and hideous trees)
Oh and here is one of the bigger encampments of the elves, an old castle with loads of walls
The best thing is that you can climb these walls (and get a special deed for doing so). View on the next castle. I think that is Dol Guldur, main keep of one of the Ring Wraiths.
So yeah, it's no walk in the Shire there, but I think it has its charms.

Mirkwood has a great mood to it. Yesterday, I ported right from the middle of it into Shire, and was shocked by all those pretty buildings, nice colors, and cute Hobbits. Nice contrast from Mirkwood.
Too bad that the music in the new zones is unimpressive (to say the least)....

Yeah, drum circles all up ins.
The camp in the swamp (centre-south) has some funny music, though. I have no idea what is up with that.
Because LOTRO is the only game with attractive graphics I'll post some more :P.
I just did book 14 of volume 1 and here's a screenie of a fresco I liked. It emitted tons of dread so I couldn't get too close without my screen going grey and a big eye of Sauron staring at me. Question for you guys playing at home: why would this fresco make anyone who comes close to it dreadful?
The other screenies are from the last cutscene, I'm spoilering them because they are spoilers for book 14.
We finally reached the woman who reforged one of the other rings of power and after getting our ass kicked around for a while someone yells for her to come to the true ruler of Angmar. She follows him outside. We regain our posture and follow them:
Then this beast lands carrying with him someone who you think was dead long too, but who was saved by the even bigger evils.
She explains what happened to her and what's going to happen to Amarthiel now.
Amarthiel feels immortal thanks to her ring and decides to launch her energy beams.
Amarthiel loses and the lackey gets to kick and stab her some more
Suddenly! The father of Amarthiel stumbles towards them. Amarthiel used to be a fair elven girl, but she was possessed by the forces of evil. From that day on her father, a proud ranger who has been chasing after her for ages, held her prison for decades - in the hope his daughter could somehow beat the evil that has taken her over - and has been fooled by the evil spirit on more than one occasion.
Of course he's already half dead. We can't move and he's facing the two strongest foes on this side of the Misty Mountains.
He dies, and this gives Amarthiel the power to break free from the evil within her. After centuries she is finally able to talk to her father again, who tried to save her the whole time, only to have his dead body to mourn over. Her grief is considered a better punishment than death and the other two jerks leave.
Now that was the end of book 14, the next book is considered an epilogue and we will learn how Amarthiel is holding up and what she can tell us about the other forces of evil gathering to crush the Free People.
Because I forgot to hide the UI on the last screenie you also get to see what LOTRO players are usually occupied with. It's kinda weird to have an epic story going on, but it's still a MMO so in the end we're still going AFK to take the doggy for a walk or a biobreak or whatever. I think The Old Republic will face the same weird dichotomy.
Oh damn, didn't even realize Darkfall came out. All I knew it was in open beta or something and it was all kinds of janky with some interesting concepts.
That's XAES - it's the power source of Nezebgrad that sends astral energy all throughout the city. Unfortunately, it has been sieged by League terrorists, who threaten to destroy it.
Wait...What's this?
a Tep ruin underneath XAES? Very suspicious...
Yay propaganda!
Leaving the city limits of Nezebgrad, we go explore some of the more natural surroundings...

Okay, maybe not that natural.
Nearing the port...
Big ship! Wonder what's down there?
Don't fall in
they're far too interesting not to look at, so I'm just gonna quote your jailed ass.
is this allods game any fun to play? it looks amazing and i never heard of it before...
That's what I keep wondering too.
It's a mediocre WoW clone, to be honest. Not that mediocre doesn't mean fun, just not amazing. Free to play, but there's a cash shop whose items are pretty much required to be competitive in PvP and most endgame stuff.

Player: well, guess i'm babysitting again
My guess is the fresco is that of Sauron (The Gift Giver) teaching the elves how to make the Rings.
And you're right. :^:
Spaceships are better than relationships
I have my painting hanging right behind Mordirith's Mirror. She's keeping an eye on him for me.

What is the movie this evening?

That's the kind of rock mass extinctions are made from.
They're organizing.
the general atmosphere of the city: Germany circa the earlier 1900's
The Fuhre- erm, I mean, an important building in the city
The planet's civilizations were not warp capable, so the Prime Directive kept the captain from acting.

This building leaves a Nazi taste in my mouth...
Not sure what this building is for, but it looks ominous...
Yaskers Tower, so named after our glorious leader
Inside Yaskers Tower overlooking the first floor
One of the many hallways leading to various parts of the capital building
Teleporter room leading to Yasker's room
Nice room, Yasker.
Oh my Goodness, it's Yasker himself! Mind if I take a picture?
The Arisen section of Yasker's Tower is a little bit...darker
The lovely park that opened recently
Exploring some ancient Teb ruins
And here are my Gibberling Psionicists
Why is there a statue of a dude clobbering a bird?!? What did the bird do to deserve this? Is it an evil bird?
These are important questions.
My cape is white and longer than your average cape or cloak.

But it's pretty fun, and free.
Well I laughed.
