Essentially everything you need to know about the first Mass Effect game is located here.

Alternately, you can trawl through the old OP.

If you've got Steam issues with the first game, a good place to look for information is by clicking on this sentence.

FIX FOR FREEZING ON THE LOADING SCREEN
(note: The PC Patch 1.01 should fix freezing issues)
Courtesy of pcultimate from the Bioware forums for creating the dummy load.blk files and mtvnot from Piratebay for figuring out the fucked up .blk files that don't play correctly for whatever reason:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1KHDBLIL

Get those files.

Replace the following files ONLY, NOT ALL OF THEM, or you won't be able to move forward with the game past the IFF sequence of events. Only the files below are broken, the rest you should be able to watch.

If you're getting in-game freezing every few seconds, do the following:

Go to the folder where you installed the game.

Go to Binaries and make a shortcut of MassEffect2.exe.

Now open properties on this shortcut and add the line -nomoviestartup.

It should look like this "...Binaries\MassEffect2.exe" -nomoviestartup.

Start the game. It should work lag free now.

The third kind of loading problem is addressed here. It deals with their length.

Why you should save the council in ME1

Depends on whether there's a key to "refund squad points" or if it can be bound. I think I get what this does - it uses the lag between evolving powers to refund the points back, but the "evolve power" screen still appears because it had already been initiated. Once you select it, the tree "solidifies", but all the points are refunded if you took them away in that lag window between selecting the 4 point rectangle, and the evolve prompt appearing.

Doesn't really matter tho, as on the PC if you want to do this, simply download an already setup coalesced.ini, and push a key to give yourself as many squadpoints as you want.

On the PC we can do much more than just this. Infinite resources, P/R bars, all weapons for all classes, etc.

In ME3 I want to meet a grizzled, yet confused old Elcor, who is still yet to understand that humans are not merely Eclor still in the pink flush of youth, acting out against their culture. Ideally, he would tell long, amusing stories that go nowhere and involve interjections of "you know I can't smell anything, right?" when you get the chance to say something.

Also, I fear that we'll get a batarian teammate who I will have to be nice to. I don't want that.

Well I sure hope the Reapers won't end up like the Borg from Star Trek and go from incredibly powerful and ancient killing machines to hero-cannon-fodder. But let's see what Bioware cooks up for us eager gamers.

If they ever do either a full tv series or mini-series of Star Trek again the first thing they address should be to completely kill off the borg. I dunno, make it a big full on war or something where the borg finally bite it. let them go out with a bang. The borg has had its run especially after voyager reduced them to super easy to defeat enemy.

It's possible they don't have a collective name. We do know that Sovereign's minds had a name for its form, and what it was for its distinguishable "shell", but considering how much they think they're "above it all", they might just think that the apex of evolution is what they are, so they don't even need names for what they are.

    Both
    Harbinger

and Sovereign come off as really pretentious fuckers with ideas of grandeur while you prove them wrong every step of the way on a microscale.

The whole "we are beyond your understanding" and the way he tried to move around explaining what they are, is probably because he really couldn't, as they don't have conventional group names and he did mention each and every one of them is a solid state unit.
