I bought a 360 for the beta, only because it's so reasonable when thinking about the big picture: I got a 360 for a game which has not been released(Halo 3), but now I get cool shit like Geometry Wars, Oblivion, and.. uhh.. I'm sure there's something else...

to be honest i bought crackdown just because of the beta, and it turned out to actually be pretty fun. if you don't get it though, i guess the only loss is your own though, i'm gonna be blowing people up and cowering in bubble shields for 3 weeks.

Wait, what? I thought we were already up to 1.6, no?

Wasn't the patch on the multiplayer map disc, 1.5, and then shortly after that, there was an online patch to 1.6 like a year ago?

Is my memory going, or something?

the multiplayer map disc was 1.1

the patch to fix the teleporter on relic was still 1.1

two years later we get 1.5

maybe they're just catching up with all the versioning they haven't been doing.

1.1 - original pistol nerf + grenade update
    1.2 - map disc
    1.3 - teleporter fix
    1.5 - newest maps

add in an update or two with some banhammer upgrades and it just about evens out.

the weapon change and the patch to recognize the disc maps were the same.

but yeah, what we're seeing is the sum of their work behind-the-scenes over the year.

Time to go read the cheater's forums again and see if they're still bitching.

edit: they are. Apparently when you try to bridge now, the game will keep booting you back to step 1 until you stop doing it.

Nope, because it also fixed dummy glitching and wall pulling. the new maps came out like 5 days later, over Xbox Live. the disc came out 3-4 weeks later, but they would patch Halo 2 to that same patch.

Seriously? So they've "fixed" both bridging and map modding? That's awesome, if true.

fixed as in harder to do and you don't last as long. The game will still let you mod, but apparently the previous "survival time" was 6 hours - it's now catching people inside of 30 minutes to 2 minutes, I guess depending on which types of mods they are using.

Since Tin was nice enough to give me a 2 month code (again), I'm going to use that up before I re-activate FyreWulff TBK (I can't seem to find Live timecards anywhere - only points cards anyway)

I'm out of names to think of though.

    Name's I've already done:

FyreWulff (wish I could get this one back)
    TBK FyreWulff
    FyreWulff TBK
    FyreWulff 360
    Mask of Majora
    Fathammaren
    a free iPod

the first person to pick a good name.. will get 4$ to cover the cost of the new maps. Act now!

I liked the short run 6v6 Team Battle had back in the day.

8v8 just gets too hectic and laggy, imo. Plus I don't really like any of the big maps.

The lack of a 8v8 playlist is probably due to the split in the community that will occur when the new maps drop. I think all the new maps are medium sized anyway, making a 8v8 game a bit hectic.

6v6 is win. I've always preferred smaller games, 8v8 is always too laggy and hectic. It kinda sucks that we won't have much to do if there's a party bigger than 6 now, but ehh, oh well. I still say they should've left BTB and brought back Carnage.

So um, are any of you guys actually considering getting Halo 2: Vista? I doubt it for several reasons, A; Vista is still not widely accepted and B; a lot more of you guys have XBL and a 360 or Xbox already so it would be impractical to get it again for the PC. I OTOH do not have a 360 as my brother took it with him when he moved out as well as everything else, but I wasn't about to ask him to leave a $300+ system for my stupid little 20inch POS TV from the early 90's.

There are a few compelling points to the Vista version and those are being the fact that there will be 2 new maps, free online play, and a map editor/creator. So is there any thoughts as to these? It comes out May 8th, btw.

Indeed, definitely my favorite combo in the game... by after about a month after launch.

Still continues to be, though. Just fucking shreds through spartans, that combo does. It's the sheer amount of firepower from the SMG + the accuracy of the pistol. SMG takes out the shields, and then shots from the magnum to the head do the rest.

It got slightly less effective with the update. Another good one is SMG + Plasma Rifle. The PR eats the shields and the SMG eats their health. :P
