I was Mould. I had the power of shooting at people with an unloaded weapon and giving away too much information to Kime. I was supposed to survive along with Love to the end of the game. I was under the misapprehension that there were only two competitors for Love, and when Zellpher died I was clear. I'm guessing that the song title lied to me now.

    Conclusion

The end came quickly that night. Five broke from the pack, tearing Death from his friends and spiking him on the centre pylon.

Then they turned, slipping from mortal forms into shades of extinction. A spray of semen took out the boy with the fiery eyes, no more magic to save him from melting.

The owl swooped down, tearing off the face of the last Muse, reducing her to gobbets of meat on the floor.

The final death was the gunman's, his arms shaking then falling off, blisters growing to putrescent bodies, tumours splitting his garb.

…Even Death could not save them now from annihilation.

Song That I Actually Like - Egos, for Slayer's "Born Of Fire"

New Song Introduction - Alegis, for Tony Christie/All Seeing I's "Walk Like A Panther" (goddamn stuck in my head)
Runner up was LemmingHead for Ciara's "1, 2, Step"

And best musical reference was Samurai for "The Greatest Men Who Ever Lived."

My role was odd and I thank Deshadow for remixing me or it would have been a very dull game for me. Basically every night I would get the name of Suitor for my True Love and in order to win I had to be the only suitor left along with the True Love.

Then Egos got killed and Rawk came into my life and we lived happily ever after on the bones of the fallen.

Here's the list of random play songs. As you can see, losing a vote was balanced against some of the others and yet wasn't the worst thing that could have befallen the village:
    random plays:
-day for ghosts (delain, all players can speak in-thread, even if they are dead)
-miss a day (atb, there is no village vote that day)
-nightless night (husky rescue, there are no primary, secondary, or tertiary actions that day, special actions may still occur)
-the endless feed (dark tranquillity, each vote in a row after the first for the same player counts double the previous vote [ie, first is 1, second is 2, third is 4.] this chain may be broken by a post without a vote, a vote for another player, or a withdrawal of a vote.)
-cool my fire (i'm burning; ada; each player gains an additional roleblock to be used that night as a primary action)
-free will sacrifice (amon amarth; one player may sacrifice themselves to gain benefits for their faction)
-timewave zero (anaal nathrakh; the game ends at the end of the day, and special conditions come into play. this may be rerolled if chosen before the fourth day.)
-room for one more (anthrax; the first replacement is brought into the game as a new player)
-we are the nightmare (arsis; the "mafia" can send a message to be included in the next night's narration)
-telepathy (emiliana torrini; the village may publicly seer one player)
-red flag (billy talent; all women gain an additional power)
-ominous bloodvomit (bloodbath; the mafia receives an additional kill the next night if the players do not solve a riddle or problem)
-magic window (boards of canada; nothing)
-kill devil hill (bruce dickinson; all vigilante and mafia powers are doubled that night)
-we're not gonna fall (children of bodom; all villagers are guarded that night against one attack)
-inside the horror (chimaira; guard effects are useless that night)
-an enemy lead the tempest (cradle of filth; mafia actions occur first as a special priority)
-in power we entrust the love advocated (dead can dance; the village can vote for one person to be given additional powers the next night)
-destroy everything you touch (ladytron; all kills are guards, all other actions are kills)
-one of us must hang (khoma; if a villager is lynched that day, the village gains additional powers the next day)
-bright yellow gun (throwing muses; both the mafia and the village receive additional kills that night)

    My value has dropped
    But don't shed a tear
Network heads walk like they own the place
    Whilst others creep in fear
So try if you can to walk like a man
    But you don't come near

You've got to fly like an eagle
Prowl like a lion in Africa
Leap like a salmon home from the sea
    To keep up with me
You've got to walk like a panther tonight

As for mafia roles and (new) abilities, the list. Killing a muse gave us new stuff.
I never knew if teucrian was either a metal or a pop song so we used both on him when we went paranoid-fuck-where-are-all-the-vigs mode.

    Role PMs:

WARNING: Most PMs were laced with YouTube videos. (nsf56k)

    Mafia:
    1-5 Mafia: send to samurai6966;Alegis;Daius;Infidel;LemmingHead

You are what would be called in other games "the mafia." Here, you are a plague upon the mind: symphonies of decay and deceit made out of static and unharmony. Your virulence has grown in leaps and bounds, and now you are ready to assault the firmament, the institution. Your goal is nothing more than utter extinction of all melodies and musics: a world bereft of beauty and filled with plague.

You are death, and this is your epic.

Special Note: While your roles are tied to specific songs, I would not recommend listening to them unless you want to be slightly to completely disturbed.

    Group Abilities:

Hidden in the Maker's Heart: All roles in this game descend from the listening history found in my last.fm profile. Note however, that your listens are so insignificant against the whole that the very possible existance of your roles is hidden.

Additionally, each of you possesses a cover identity: a role and song belonging to no one else that you may identify with. These roles also match additional abilities you might have.

Murder in the Maker's Mind: Each night, you may kill two players as a secondary action. Choose a specific member of "your mafia" to do each kill, and a specific form to kill with.

Inimical to Melody: None of you may be remixed.

Empowerment Through Devourment: Certain villagers, when murdered by you, grant the mafia extra powers. The Muses, which act as the pillars of the musical community, are certainly your greatest prizes.

    Objective:

Murder or otherwise extinguish all villagers belonging to melody or music. The common end of most phalla games is in effect: that is, you win the game when you outnumber the village, able to control the vote and keep killing.

    Individual Members:

    Samurai6966 - Pylon

Source: "The Great Unwashed IV," The Axis Of Perdition

Gender: Female (Pylon possesses a warped, split and squirming womb)
Forms: Pylon, mother of demons; the Form on the Other Side of Silence; the Pendulum Predator

Cover: Bride in Cold Tears, from Tangerine Dream's "Bride In Cold Tears"

Special Ability: Once during the game, you may spawn a plague of unknowable creatures to plague and murder someone. This murder occurs as a secondary action.

    Alegis - Crawling Omnipotent Chaos

    Source: "Crawling Omnipotent Chaos," Portal

    Gender: None
Forms: An ooze of dissolution, a pit of quicksand ash, a plague of blisters

Cover: Knight of Wands, from Au Revoir Simone's "Knight of Wands"

Special Ability: Once during the game, you may seer someone. This seering occurs as a primary action and is unblockable.

Infidel - The Monolith of Balnaa-Kheil

Source: "Balnaa-Kheil the Bleak," Ruins of Beverast

    Gender: Male
Forms: A crushing monolith of stone, a spray of acid semen, a drowning deep mine

Cover: Mannequin Surfer, from Tujiko Noriko's "Mannequin Surfer"

Special Ability: Once during the game, may guard another member of the mafia from all attacks that night. This occurs as a primary action.

    Daius - The Field Hag

    Source: "The Field Hag," Wold

    Gender: Female
Forms: A decrepit woman, a screech owl, a whip of desiccating hair

Cover: Jackie, from the New Pornographers' "Jackie, Dressed In Cobras"

Special Ability: Each night, may send another player a message anonymously. This occurs as a secondary action.

    LemmingHead - Lice-Crawling Human

    Source: "Lice-Crawling Humanity," Watchmaker

    Gender: Male
Forms: A corpse riddled with insects and blight, a murderous construct of bone, an animate burst of static

    Cover: Fernando, from ABBA's "Fernando"

Special Ability: Once during the game, may block another player's role and abilities with a blast of static. This occurs as a primary action.

    Roles 6-10:
    6. Fog (send to Zellpher)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsZNPoLUbJo

You are Fog, one of the romantic suitors in Interpol's "Fog Vs. Mould For The Length of Love." Somewhere out there is your love, and you will do anything - kill anyone - to make her yours. Without her, you will die - bereft of purpose and being.

Remix: When remixed, you may kill your love to win the game.

    Gender: Male

In Heated Blood: Each night, you may murder one person as a secondary action. If you murder your Love, you immediately lose the game.

Objective: Find your Love, eliminate all other suitors and competition, and survive the game.

    7. Mould (send to Teucrian)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsZNPoLUbJo

You are Mould, one of the romantic suitors in Interpol's "Fog Vs.

    8. Love (send to Egos)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSHLb31dj2Y
Source: Anna Ternheim - Calling Love

You are Love, the perfect maiden that everyone seeks. You have many suitors and companions, many adorers and worshipers. In the mind, you are a dream, a hope for future life. Ultimately, you are content with companionship and not morals - you can be fulfilled even if everything else burns around you.

Remix: When remixed, you gain the following ability:

Calling Love: You may roleblock one player a night through various enchanting methods as a primary action.

    Gender: Female

Objective: Survive the game with one or more of your suitors still alive.

    9. Death as Hunter (send to Romantic Undead)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDoSYsCsvcY
Source: The Crown - Death Is The Hunter

You are Death, the inevitable end to all things. Yet in this place you are more active than ever - a reaper with scythe, reaching out among the chaos to strike down the weak and the strong with no care. Ultimately, you have an internal rhythm - a music to work and murder by, and as such this extinction of music worries you. On the other hand, you would also be perfectly happy with an eternal silence. Choices, choices...

Remix: When remixed, if you commit an unblocked murder in the same night you would be murdered, you instead murder your attacker.

    Gender: None

Taste of My Scythe: You may murder one player a night as a secondary action.

Bathed In Blood: If you would be murdered on a night when you murder someone, you instead remain alive.

Objective: You may EITHER outlast all other players (the serial killer win condition) or help in the elimination of all forces inimical to music (the villager win condition.)

    10. The Answer (send to MinorSecond)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8B1ai25lUo

When the first disappearances occured in the Halls of Sound, the Muses came to you, freeing you from shackles eternal. "Save us," they cried "do for us what we cannot do for ourselves." Now you, the Answer, are free, avenger for those fallen, slayer for the greater good.

    Gender: Female

Remix: When remixed, you gain the following ability:

Persistence: You automatically are guarded against the first attack that would kill you in the game.

The End Of The Line: Each night, you may kill one player as a secondary action.

Objective: You win the game when all forces inimical to music have been eliminated.

    Roles 11-15:
    11. Citizen of the Planet (send to Adventfalls)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sK1ktgvmCmo

You are the Citizen of the Planet, in tune with all things and all places at all times. You can feel and see things that others might not, bringing formerly hidden truths to light. These disappearances worry you as much as anyone else - a light being snuffed out diminishes the glory of the whole.

    Gender: Female

Remix: When remixed, you gain the following ability:

Words of the Wise: You may seer one person each night as a secondary action. When using this ability, you do not gain information from an Affinity for the Unknown.

An Affinity For The Unknown: Each night, you may receive extra details on an occurance that has gone on that night. You do not need to target this ability; it instead occurs passively.

Objective: You win the game when all forces inimical to music have been eliminated.

    12. Leader of the Rats (send to Romanqwerty)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aSghj8qlek

You are the Leader of the Rats, inciter of rebellion and revolution. The "disease" you spread is knowledge and insight, and your words carry miles. Despite your anger and irresponsibility, your understanding and communication may be crucial to withstanding whatever threat this is.

    Gender: Male

Remix: When remixed, you gain the following ability:

Bring Down The Walls: Once per game, you may declare publicly in the thread that you are using this ability. The last Whim & Whirl song chosen is removed from play, and another is chosen at random.

Spreading The Disease: Once per day, you may send a player a message anonymously (by PMing me the message and your target.) This is a primary action.

Objective: You win the game when all forces inimical to music have been eliminated.

    13. Mary Martin (send to Zandracon)

Source: "The Mary Martin Show," by the New Pornographers

As B-list celebrity and interviewer Mary Martin, you get under your guests' skin, often making them reveal truths they'd rather keep hidden. Despite your upbeat, poppy facade, you hold a lot of possible power - some of it hypnotic.

    Gender: Female

Come Any Closer: Once per day, you can interview another player, with an appropriate section added to the narration. This occurs as a secondary action.

Remix: When remixed, you gain the following ability:

It Was Gold: When using Come Any Closer, you may also murder your interviewee. This also occurs as a secondary action.

Objective: You win the game when all forces inimical to music have been eliminated.

    14. Fire Eye'd Boy (send to Kime)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWGwylbB3PA

You are the Fire Eye'd Boy, quick to evade and good at giving the slip. Your sleight of hand, luckily, can be applied to others, allowing them to dodge certain deaths.

    Gender: Male

Give 'Em The Slip: Once per day, you may guard another player (but not yourself.) This is a primary action.

Persistence: You automatically are guarded against the first ability that targets you during the game. This cannot block the vote.

Objective:You win the game when all forces inimical to music have been eliminated.

    15. Six (send to Erich Zahn)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJNJ7fXSzVE

You are Six, a girl of unbelievable power and fragility. Survival is your goal - deliverance can only be attained through empowerment. You really don't care who wins or loses this conflict - only that you come out on top.

    Gender: Female

Destroy Everything: Once during the game, you may murder someone. This is a secondary action.

Persistence: You automatically are guarded against the first ability that targets you during the game. This cannot block the vote.

Remix: When remixed, you kill the person who originally triggered Persistence.

Objective: You win the game by surviving until the end of the game.

    Roles 16-21:
    16. Sophia (send to Hippie)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huOhqgYAKDY

You are Sophia, the wellspring of wisdom and life. Your song is fertile and immortal, and can never be quelled. Unfortunately for those less-wise, your infinity can rarely be seen until it is too late.

    Gender: Female

Bringer of Wisdom: Once per day, you may seer another player. This is a secondary action.

Remix: When remixed, you gain the following ability:

Perennial: When killed, you are automatically brought back to life a day later. If you are lynched (voted for death) this effect does not come into play.

    17. God-Slaughtering Murder Machine (send to Typhus733)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4o-vA2bSqM

You are the God-Slaughtering Murder Machine, a construct of pain and torture built only to kill. However, your essence is only a music of energy: this need to extinguish is not brought every night. Instead, you know that you may act once - and that your action will forever change yourself and others.

    Gender: Male

Bring Death: You may sacrifice yourself and another villager (with their consent) to unblockably kill another player. This is a secondary action. To use this ability, you AND the other player to be sacrificed must PM me their consent with the target to be killed. If the other sacrifice is not a villager, this ability is wasted and you still die.

Remix: When remixed, Bring Death no longer kills you when used. It still requires a sacrifice.

Objective: You win the game when all forces inimical to music have been eliminated.

    18. The Heir Apparent (send to The_Reflection)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vm3XZeRyTHg

Once upon a time, you were the scion of a large empire. Then your father died, and you had to fight for your rightful inheritance. As The Heir Apparent, you must take advantage of the chaos to strike out against the hidden bastard child that would threaten you - a girl, a wisp. Nothing anyone will miss.

    Gender: Male

Burning Gaze: Once per day, you may target a player to find out their gender. This occurs as a secondary action.

Strike Down With Sorrow: Once per game, you may kill one player. This occurs as a secondary action. You may not use this ability on the same day you use Burning Gaze.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YY-EOYJQMMY[/url]

You are the Son of the Staves of Time, a prophecied child given to visions and invention. You don't see on the same level as others sometimes - events in the past brought to you, images of the future. In the modern, current day, you work to stop the misshapen wishes of thoughtless men, block the few to save the whole.

    Gender: Male

Clashing Invention: Once per day, you may roleblock another player. If the player is not male, this ability is wasted. This occurs as a primary action.

Remix: When remixed, you gain the following ability:

Objective: You win the game when all forces inimical to music have been eliminated.

20-21. Sisters (send to FrostMist and Jaenther)

You are the Sisters, almost twinned in devotion and care. You've stood against goblins, supped at pomegranates together. Ultimately, your existance is perpetuation of beauty and melody: and only together will you withstand these occurences.

    Gender: Female

Objective: You win the game when all forces inimical to music have been eliminated.

    26. The Song (DeShadowC)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBGN9UBuk9w

You are That Song, the melody and lyric everyone gets stuck in their head from time to time. Eventually, you take over, pushing out other music, making everything just a repetition of you. In my headspace, in the Halls of Sound, things are no different.

    Gender: Female

Patriot: All your posts in the game thread must include some form of praise for America or its cultural products.

Remix: When remixed, you gain the following ability:

    28. Receiver (send to simonwolf)

Source: "Receiver," by Fall of the Leafe

You are a faceless citizen, a mere Receiver of things given to you and thrown upon you. You have no life or being beyond what is created for you, and only by stitching imposition together can you find your own place.

    Gender: Male

Receive and Amplify: Once per day, you may target another player. Any abilities used on you that night are also used on them. This occurs as a special action BEFORE primary actions.

Amazingly fun game Arivia! Sorry I didn't help out the village at the end but it was easier to team up with the mafia and ensure that Rawk and myself got a win rather than potentially be killed tomorrow when the mafia ran out of other people to target.

Also Deshadow for the remix from last night was it on an every other day timer or did you have someone else you remixed?

Ah nevermind the role pm answered that.

    Some general notes:

Mafia Identity: As you can now see in the role PMs, there were metal songs as neutrals and villagers. No, what differentiates the mafia here from the other players was the hatred and disturbing qualities of their sources. The "musics" they're taken from isn't designed to entertain, it's meant to depress and evoke a lot of darkness. It's an experience, not something fitting on the whole. There's a reason the mafia pm got tagged with a "you probably don't want to listen to these" bit: white noise and screaming is the best outcome. Their sources really do want to destroy everything literally, and that felt distinctive to me.

Mafia alternate forms were based upon other songs by those artists. Yes, Advent's unmixed ability was only to tie two mafia forms together and hint at the greater horror.

The Automatic Flower-Bearer was actually an insane GUARD. I sent Kime a PM about this: "automatic flowers just aren't enough" hints at his ineffectiveness. Unfortunately, I failed at the source material: reading lyrics instead of just listening to Raine Maida mumble makes it pretty clear it's a song about pot.

Both the village and the mafia could gain power: the village from remixing (of which DeShadowC was the only source) and the mafia from killing muses. Whim & Whirl could help or hinder either side, and they both took pretty big blows from it.

Remixing (and more specifically the "The Song" role) was me working with the usual conversion mechanic: quite obviously, it shouldn't be an invisible threat to the village, so I tweaked it to be beneficial for them while giving DeShadow an alternate goal. The infectious part of the usual pop song was still relatively felt, I feel.
