    That video's horrible.

I'm personally a fan of the windbag reporter who thinks he's asking the tough questons asking: "Why won't you treat white supremacists the same as the National Black Caucus? They're the same! Why do you not treat them the same?"

This is Rubriv Von Rubrik, rubricing for Rubric rubrics.

He wrote "Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party".

    Wikipedia:
Max Blumenthal is an American liberal investigative journalist, columnist, documentary filmmaker, and political vlogger. His work has been featured on NPR, MSNBC, The Nation,[1], Washington Monthly, The American Prospect, The Huffington Post,[2] Salon Magazine, Al Jazeera English, Alternet, Democracy Now!, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, and The Rachel Maddow Show. His investigative reporting has been cited by the Boston Globe,[3] The American Prospect,[4] San Francisco Chronicle,[5] CBS News,[6] Newsday,[7] Rocky Mountain News,[8] Christianity Today,[9] Los Angeles Times,[10] The Guardian,[11] Chicago Tribune,[12] Fox News,[13] and Time Magazine,[14] - among many other news outlets. The winner of the USC Annenberg Online Journalism Award for his investigative print journalism, he has produced numerous widely-recognized video reports that have garnered hundreds of thousands of hits on Youtube and other sites.[2]

The son of former Clinton administration presidential aide Sidney Blumenthal,[15] he is also a Puffin Writing Fellow at the New York-based Nation Institute, a research fellow for the progressive Media Matters for America,[1][15] and senior contributor at The Daily Beast. Blumenthal's first book, Republican Gomorrah: Inside the Movement that Shattered the Party, was published in September 2009.

He seems a bit controversial even among Liberals, not surprising given the topics he writes about, but that guy near the end of the video, I think it was Andrew Breitbart yelling at him, his attacks were uncalled for and the classic definition of over-reacting without real cause. He was pouring all those varied reasons, which may or may not have had anything to do with Blumenthal, onto him just to vent his general anger at those things at something he could yell at. My hat too is off to Mr Max for withstanding that disgusting orgy of media stupidity.

I don't know much about Max, but I give him the benefit of the doubt right now based on that video and all the anger and shit he had to put up with. I might just read his book.

Also, Hannah Giles seems like she'd be such a sweet girl if her head wasn't full of air.

When I read the 'I wish I could provide more details' line, I knew this was going to be an excellent show of investigative reporting.

I thought it was interesting that the author completely ignored what the federal prosecutors found in regards to O'Keefe's tapes being highly edited.

    Stay classy Wired.

Yeah... that conversation sounds like it would be crazy easy to edit. The guy from Wired's failure in the article is not pointing that out.
I wish I could provide more details — like the names of the staffers, or the exact dates of the recordings. But O’Keefe showed me the tapes just once, and quickly. O’Keefe did mention, however, that he was surprised he was able to avoid the federal buildings’ security systems.

Yep, that's O'Keefe misleading him. And I somehow doubt the building's "security" was easily penetrated. Unless the interview was being done at gunpoint or something.

I mean come on O'keefe you are a lilly white boy who talks like a conservative mouth piece, I'd be surprised if you had ever prior to being arrested spoken to an authority figure.

As someone who dealt with the Homebuyer Tax Credit, that conversation doesn't even make sense.

Like when the HUD employee says "flip-it", they're referring to the specific practice of buying a home then re-mortgaging for a cash out or selling the home, quickly. As in, I'm sure the question was something like "What if I bought a home for $6,000, and then sold it for $80,000? Would I still get the credit?"

    Because those answers don't work.

Then again, HUD isn't really too involved in the details of the credit. Asking the woman in charge of internal accounting or foreclosure prevention could net wrong answers, as well.

EDIT: Anyone want to do a string with me? We're going to go the GOP Headquarters and interview the janitor about how the Republicans are going to blow up San Diego.

An element of a story about a guy who did fraudulent editing to make the tapes say what he wants them to say? Well aren't you a brilliant journalist. I wonder if the Daily Show will also screw this one up.

Late last year, O’Keefe and fellow activist Joe Basel went into the Detroit and Chicago offices of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with a hidden camera. They pretended to be scam artists, asking employees there to participate in a complex kickback scheme involving federal incentives for first-time home buyers. In the excerpted footage shown to me by O’Keefe, the staffers seemed only to happy to comply.

What exactly does that mean? Did they walk into the office and say, "Hi, we're scam artists. Can you help us?"

"Sure. *not taking the bribe*. Just be aware that your property tax is based on what you report you paid for it, so you will lose money in the long run. And you can't report paying less than you did."
