when i was in my latter years of high school, i tried hard to clean up my act and abandon the drugs and sluttin' lifestyle i had been leading (the source of many of those wacky stories i tell sometimes)
the result is actually became something of an anti-social shut-in for a little while, as i wasn't "fun anymore" with the friends i had, for the most part. after all, they were drug dealers and hedonists and shit, and nobody likes the guy who decides he doesn't want to do your things anymore because they're bad
so suddenly, in 11th grade, i found myself having to make friends all over again, and not with the usual sort i found myself with
and so, i ended up hanging out with really nerdy kids and social outcasts and generally the sort of people who really had been shit on by everyone else
i learned a lot! i also caused a lot of them to learn a lot. while i didn't lead them into some high life of partying and booze or something, i actually caused a lot of them to loosen up and address some of their social inadequacies and anxieties and shit, and i helped a bunch of them come out of their shell and stuff
fast forward to two years ago, when a dude i hadn't talked to has tracked me down to invite me to his wedding.
as it turns out, i was the one who encouraged him to change a lot of his "loser" qualities and it was when he was hanging out with me that he met his wife-to-be, and i was the one who gave him dating pro-tips and shit
we lost touch after high school, but he felt it'd be wrong to not invite to his wedding the guy that basically changed his social life around and helped him meet and date his wife
that felt pretty good

some of those kids thought i was the "cool kid" who was "slumming" by hanging out with them as some kind of charity case or something
some of them sorta resented me for this impression at first, but over time they liked me and saw me as just this cool nice guy who was hanging with them and periodically doling out advice and observations and stuff
the day they realized i was a self-inflicted outcast and that a lot of the "cool people" that i had hung around previously with hated me now and i was actually unwelcome in most of those social circles
that was not a fun day, was pretty depressing for them to find out that, in fact, i was something of a social pariah
that said, it was actually kinda nice because instead of rebuking me as some sort of false idol, they welcomed me because i was actually a lot more like them than they thought previously
No it isn't and I really hate posting in music threads here.
I can count the decent power metal bands I've heard on one hand. It's the most boring, predictable, cliched genre there is. The world would be a better place if the only power metal band around was BG.
