You're calling the cops and asking them to harass teenagers. About the only thing they're more likely to show up for is free donuts.

    Seriously, this is not difficult.

This pool hall/sports bar (for lack of a better term) the kids are hanging out at; You might be able to talk to the owner/employees there and see if they feel the same way. It's in their power to ban the kids from hanging out inside or out front. If the kids refuse to leave after being banned, pool hall calls the cops.

    Kids either:

    1) Leave without incident/ go somewhere else
    2) Cops make them leave
    3) Cops take them away, reports get generated, parents informed, etc.

Check your local loitering laws. That might be the only thing the police will be able to confront them about. If they are hanging out on private property, the owner of the bar/parking lot can ask them to leave.

Other than that, suck it up, or go talk to their parents.

What works for me as someone who hails from a city filled wall-to-wall with kids like this, although note your mileage may vary:

Laugh it off. Smile a lot. Grin like an idiot at the very idea that these kids think they're intimidating, that they're "hard", as if they're trying to involve you in some elaborate street theatre. It's always defused it for me, because they're left with two choices: they face the fact that you've seen it a million fucking times and you're not scared by idiot kids, or they become part of the joke and pretend that they're intentionally playing along.

And call the cops regardless. Thanatos pretty much nailed it. Loudmouth vandalising kids are like their ambrosia.

... just call the cops. Its the easiest way to deal with kids and teenagers.. they seem to get dumber when asked simple questions by cops. Plus, they'll most likely split the teens up and question the crap out of them which will make them even weaker. If all else fails:

Ok misread the OP's description, however:
I walk to a bar a couple times a week to play pool and watch some sports. There's a group of kids who hang around lately being general douchebags...

They're still on someones property. Talk to the property owner.

It definitely looks a lot better on the owner to stand up and deal with those idiots rather than his paying customers call the cops for him. And if he doesn't care about taking care of his customers, just find another bar if you're not so attached to it.
Flashing cop lights outside of a bar isn't the most inviting sight, the owner will take care of them one way or another.

This reminds me of one time I had a problem similar to this, I used to walk down the street to visit my girlfriend and this group of idiots appeared from nowhere shouting and calling me names, I politely asked what the problem is, and they just kept laughing and talking shit. I picked the biggest one of them and I started beating him, the others tried to help but due to the fact I am fairly tall I just kept them at bay while taking care of the supposed leader.

Unfortunately, laws protect these kids, just call the cops and explain to them very calmly and clearly what the problem is.

This is sound advice. Laugh in their face. Say something like "try this again in a few years when your balls drop". Then walk away. You don't want to get in a prolonged mud slinging match with them.

Lets face it, it's not like they're actually going to fight you. If they had the balls for it they would have already.

No, this is stupid and not really what Edcrab was getting at. You don't want to engage them at all. You're ignoring them, laughing it off (read: not laughing in their face) and calling the damn cops.

Like every one says, call the police.

Much probably won't happen the first time, but you just keep calling. Over and over. Sooner or later they will get sick of the constant attention from the police or the police will find a reason to charge them. If they come back again? Call the police. Over and over and over. Encourage the other patrons to do the same, make sport of it. Start a score board, person with the biggest number of calls made to the police at the end of the month, every body else buys him a drink

Thanatos is telling you to call the cops. "There's a bunch of teenagers or young adults vandalizing property, harassing passerbys, looks like theyre trying to start a fight or sell something. Think you could send someone to check it out before they start a real mess?"

If my own teenage years are any indication, these kids are probably hanging out there because there are no cops driving by and "harassing them". They feel week and inferior, and desperately try to cover it up by displaying the behavior (behaviour) you're seeing here.

Call the cops. You don't have to report a specific incident or anything, just tell them, "there are some kids over here who are pretty rowdy, trying to pick fights with people and vandalizing stuff, it'd be appreciated if you could send a patrol car by every once in a while to keep an eye on them."

The bolded part is important, because people are more likely to help you if you come to them with a problem if you also ask for or suggest some kind of reasonable solution to the problem at the same time.

With your average teenager's ability to feel persecuted, the problem should solve itself pretty quickly. Even quicker if the cop is the type who'll stop nearby and eyeball them until they feel uncomfortable enough to leave.

    edit: Updateish.

I'm going to talk to a friend of mine who's actually the security guard over there, and a couple of the bartenders to see if they'd be willing to call the cops on the kids regularly. They don't ever go into any of the stores over there or go to the bowling alley or anything, just act like turds. I'd rather not call the police directly without someone else having witnessed or complained of the problem initially.
I actually wasn't being sarcastic. Using a workout as a healthy place to vent seems like a good idea to me.

What I wish I could do is take them all into Richmond or Oakland and drop them off next to the tracks or Marcus Garvey Park. I'll probably call the non-emergency number this weekend when I have the time and get a step by step from them on how to get these little turds told not to come back. They've already been tossed from a couple places... like Quiznos and Burger King. Which I find hilarious. I'll post an update then, in case anyone is curious. Otherwise I think this thread is done. Dittoing the calling the cops.

My family had similar problem with a group of kids living down the road from us. They picked on my brother and threatened him endlessly. Talking to the brats' parents didn't work nor did getting administration involved. And each attempt to reason with them was met with escalated harassment.

Finally, after they beat up my brother (which they didn't feel bold enough to do until his "crazy sister with a black belt" went off to college), ran over our dog with a four-wheeler and almost caused me to wreck my car by intentionally swerving in my path on their four-wheelers, I did what we all should have done: called the sheriff on them.

    Magically, the problems stopped.

If we saw someone was getting annoyed, scared, angry, we're gonna keep doing whatever we we're doing. If you talk back, that's a response, and that's what we want. If you video us, that's even better, but we're not dumb enough to do anything illegal on camera, we'll just show our awesome insults. Of course, if we see you later without that camera, we just might do something...

Since you're already known to these silly goose kids, I'd say just call the police. But you could have avoided this by just not acknowledging them in the first place.

    Limed for truth.

Engaging the little shits in any way just encourages them because you gave them the one thing they want: attention. Even negative attention is a good thing. And giving them the beating they probably deserve will probably only result in them escalating the harassment, possibly including weapons. If they do leave you alone, they'll just pick another target and may use that weapon unprovoked.

If you call police, you're creating a paper trail in case it does escalate and it shows the kids that someone's finally sick of their BS. I seriously doubt that they'd be willing to risk time in juvy just to get their cheap thrill.
