MOTW 4-07-10: Logan and Bucky are the new Riggs and Murtaugh

There were a lot of damn good books this week. Shield and Luke Cage were great, but the best in my stack so far has been Wolverine: Weapon X. I really hope this book is selling better now than when it debuted, because its the strongest a Wolverine solo book has been in a LONG time. As for the actual MOTW, the cover says it all (and I don't have a scanner here with me):

Only picked up Ultimate X this week which surprisingly is still pretty good. Maybe Loeb has finally found his groove in a Marvel title.

Yes, that has been Bucky's look since he became Cap. Its the Alex Ross design.

Ross didn't even design it for Bucky; it's just some leftover crap he had from when they didn't accept his Spider-Man redesign for the movie.

Bucky's outfit is cool when it's not all shiny. it looks a bit wierd when he's wearing coloured tinfoil.

The one thing that I didn't like about SHIELD was that it was pretty much all exposition. There were a lot of neat ideas, but it was mostly "here is a cool idea with some cool imagery and POTENTIAL to be developed into something awesome, but now we're going to go over there!". The art was great, and if they actually develop some of this stuff, I'll be on board. We'll see how it plays out.

Maybe I'm just bitter because a few weeks ago I picked up Time Lincoln (which is about a time-traveling Abe Lincoln fighting a time-traveling Joseph Stalin empowered with Rasputin's powers) and the whole issue, start to finish, was teases of things-with-potential-to-be-cool-if-we-expand-on-them-which-we-won't-do-right-now. Like, there was a panel of Lincoln facing off against Mephitler on Mount Rushmore, and that's it. Just one panel.

Great Ten #6 gives insight into Ghost Fox Killer, and reveal the big bad for the story.....:

It's Taiwan. Which makes sense because Bedard is a hippie communist so of course China would be good and Taiwan bad.

But while an outright origin isn't given for GFK, this is what we're told:

I always thought Liefield was going for a male Nemesis (created by Byrne in ALPHA FLIGHT #7):

And Liefeld created Deadpool at the height of his "I'm just going to trace from classic Perez/Byrne/Miller/whomever" phase.

Cinderella #6 concluded what was one of the best mini-series I've read in a long time. I'm going to be on the lookout for more stories written by Chris Roberson, he can be the next Mike Carey. And Shawn McManus, hella good artist.

I use to call her Cindy,
she changed her name to Cin,
I guess that's the name of her (spy) game:
Basically the fairy godmother is just tired of her witch enemy (who turns out to be Frau Tottenkinder) always messing with her trying to bring happiness, so she decides to take over a Fable land to make everyone happy by force, using mundy weapons to enforce happiness when her power goes out after midnight:

As much as I disliked how the big bad in Cinderella pulled off the monologuing villain bit, Cindy's defeat was just awesome.

If you can read that without hearing the Beastie Boys singing Sabotage, you have no soul. Period.
