Game Modes
Single-player
There is single player! In a battlefield game! Weird, I know!

Squad Rush: 4v4
Each team has an M-COMM station. Kind of like CTF but the flags don't move.

Squad Death-Match: 4v4v4v4
Played on a smaller map, this is just a straight up team-dm with a single vehicle dropped in the centre to fight over. Get your mates, grab your guns and start shooting.

Conquest: 16v16 PC, 12v12 PS3/360
A Battlefield mainstay, this mode makes its return here. No major changes announced, and there've been hints at classic maps making reappearances as DLC.

Rush: 16v16 PC, 12v12 PS3/360
Players choose to join either the Attacking team or the Defending team, and spawn in their respective bases. Attackers try to set up demolition charges on a set of 2 M-COMM crates in the Defending team's base. For each Attacker killed, the team loses one life, or "ticket." If the Attacking team's tickets run out, game over. If they manage to detonate the M-COMM's, a new Defending team base opens up, and the process repeats itself until three bases have been destroyed and the Attackers win.

Kits (Loadouts)
Assault
The basic offensive loadout. Main features are an ammo box that replenishes ammo when dropped, and a 40mm launcher that can be used for grenades, smoke grenades, or a slow-reloading shotgun attachment. Assault Rifles are the Assault's main primary weapon. Against vehicles, the Assault will generally not fare so well.

Medic
Similar to the Assault's ammo box, the medic gets a first aid kit. Once dropped, it will replenish health to everyone within a fairly tight radius. The medic also gets defib paddles, which can resurrect recently deceased teammates. These teammates, still caught in the limbo of the spawn timer, will be marked on your minimap (and on screen if HUD is enabled) by a little green or blue heart-rate monitor symbol. The medic's primary is the Light Machine Gun, making him great for infantry support. Against vehicles, though, he is worse off than the Assault.

Engineer
The engineer's specials are a welding tool that repairs friendly vehicles (and deals damage to enemies!), and the choice between RPG's or anti-tank mines. RPG's have the added benefit of being able to lock onto anything that has already been marked by the cross-kit unlock tracer dart pistol, while anti-tank mines will not harm friendly vehicles and stay deployed even after you die or switch kits. Engineer's primaries are Sub Machine Guns, generally pretty weak but also silenced and fairly accurate.

Recon
The recon's specials are a choice between remote-detonated C4 and the ability to call down a mortar strike on a target with which you have line-of-sight. They also gets the incredibly useful motion sensor thing, which spots all enemies within a decent radius for a limited time. The recon's primaries are sniper rifles. Also it can't be overstated how much proper hiding will help you in this: people will walk within 2 feet of you if you're in the right bush, the ghillie suit is your friend.

CarbonFire's Turret Mouse Fix
CARBONFIRE'S Mouse Smoothing and Turret Speed Fix for BFBC2

This fix will change the way your mouse works in-game for both your regular infantry view and when using stationary / vehicle turrets or Choppers.

Currently Battlefield Bad Company 2 has mouse smoothing on by default, with no way of turning the feature off in the game's settings. Mouse Smoothing normalizes your mouse's input, "smoothing out" very fast or very slow movements. The result of this smoothing is often aiming that feels floaty or laggy, which is obviously not desirable in an FPS!

Also BFBC2 turrets tend to turn at a much slower rate compared to normal infantry mouse aiming. This fix will solve that problem and opens the potential for turrets to reach their maximum turning speed without affecting infantry movement. This will also make vehicle turrets turn faster, but they have a hard-coded maximum turning speed, so don't expect to pull a quick 180 with a tank turret anytime soon.
DISCLAIMER: This fix involves changing values within key game files that are relied upon to properly run BFBC2. It is advised that you back up these files prior to editing, and that you don't go changing any values outside the ones shown below. Use this fix at your own risk, you assume all responsibility if you mess up your game.
Ok, with that out of the way, here are the steps to killing mouse smoothing and fixing those slow turrets:

Go to your My Documents > BFBC2 folder. We will be making changes to the Gamesettings.ini file, as well as the files within the <input> folder, so go ahead and make back-up copies of those first.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE AN <INPUT> FOLDER, IT IS BECAUSE YOU ARE USING THE DEFAULT KEYBINDINGS.
You must go to your settings in-game and bind at least one custom control (doesn't matter which) before the game makes this folder with the proper files inside.

THE FIX
  1. Make sure BFBC2 is closed
  2. Open GameSettings.ini and make the following changes:

    Sensitivity0=0.000000
    Sensitivity1=0.000000
    Sensitivity2=0.000000
    .
    .
    .
Scheme0Sensitivity=2.50000 <--- This value will be your normal in-game mouse sensitivity, it seems to have no effect on turrets or vehicles. Feel free to experiment with this value and change as necessary. I found 2.5 to be a good compromise between fast turning speed and precision with a 1000DPI mouse, but YMMV. Values from 0.001 to 100+ are valid.
    .
    .
    InputAcceleration=0

  3. Save and close GameSettings.ini
  4. Navigate to the <input> folder, open infantry.dbx using notepad
  5. Search for the following line:
    <field name="ConceptIdentifier">ConceptPitch</field>
  6. Below this line you'll see several similar-looking blocks of data. Make the following changes:

    infantryinput1.jpg
    .
  7. Just Below this section you'll find a similar section with the following header:
    <field name="ConceptIdentifier">ConceptYaw</field>

Again, find the appropriate block of data and make the following changes:

    infantryinput2.jpg
    .
  8. Save and close infantry.dbx

Mouse Smoothing should be effectively disabled at this point. However this change will render turrets and vehicles nearly impossible to use, so make sure you follow the remaining steps...
    .
  9. In the <input> folder, open land.dbx using notepad
  10. Search for the following line:
    <field name="ConceptIdentifier">ConceptPitch</field>
  11. Again, you'll see several similar-looking blocks of data below this section. Make the following changes:

    landinput1.jpg

Note: 10 here is a suggestion, again feel free to experiment. Values below 5 seemed too sluggish for my taste, while values far greater than 20 did not seem to make turrets any faster at turning, just more "squirrely" (changing directions more quickly, making it harder to stay on target).
    .
  12. Just Below this section you'll find a similar section with the following header:
    <field name="ConceptIdentifier">ConceptRoll</field>

Again, find the appropriate block of data and make the following changes:

    landinput2.jpg
    .
  13. Save and close land.dbx

Note: The next section applies only to piloting Helicopters (not including the UAV). Gunner seats and the UAV seem to follow the "land" control guidelines for turning speed. Also this fix was only tested for mouse flight. If you fly with a joystick or keyboard-only controls, you'll probably have to play with these settings a bit more to get them to work with your setup. Good Luck!
    .
  14. In the <input> folder, open air.dbx using notepad
  15. Same as before, search for the following line:
    <field name="ConceptIdentifier">ConceptPitch</field>

Below this line you'll see several similar-looking blocks of data. Make the following changes:

    airinput1.jpg
    .
  16. Search for the following line:
    <field name="ConceptIdentifier">ConceptRoll</field>

Again, find the appropriate block of data and make the following changes:

    airinput2.jpg

Choppers seem to need much higher values to compensate for setting the "main" mouse sensitivity to zero in step 2. Much lower than 100 and the chopper is hard to move. I tried up to 300, and while it worked, it wasn't a significant change. Again, experiment and find a value that suits you. Like turrets, there is a hard-coded maximum turning speed that the game allows, so don't expect this to transform your chopper into a super stunt machine.
    .
  17. Save and close air.dbx
  18. Start up BFBC2
  19. ENJOY!
  20. (optional)Curse EA as the servers go down again and go play single-player instead ;-)

One final note: Vehicles / Turrets will always be affected by some smoothing, as there is no Scheme#Sensitivity or other setting I was able to find in GameSettings.ini that changed vehicle/turret behavior.

Hope this tutorial makes your BC2 experience just a little more awesome.

See you on the Battlefield soldier 8-)

UAV Controls Un-Invert

If you swap [the red underlined] value the UAV and the helicopters will be the same inversion. To find these values, please refer to CarbonFire's turret fix.

    ... and I'M reposting this:
My overall gameplay experience has only been diminished for one instance on the dome, where I died almost exclusively to CG. Note these players did not have a PA tag, and there were no admins, and I died close to 100 times over the course of the evening to that one weapon as they played for almost as long as I did. It was a long exhausting session.

... but still totally rad cause I got all my bronze stars, and like they are nifty and bronze like but I missed the saiga so I guess that’s not ALL of them but when I get home I'll totally jump on and be like BAM BAM your dead wooo with autoshotgun and get my stars and be happy, unless I miss and stuff but that’s only if I use slugs, which are gross and slow.

Since I can't get my last two insignias until the patch, I've just been working on at least gold starring everything, just for fun.

I think I've earned maybe 6 or 7 new gold stars since the last time I was killed by a weapon that wasn't the M60. I have a platinum star on the m60, as well, though maybe half of those kills come from when I actually had the weapon equipped on my own medic class, the rest just from picking it up off of one of the eight people on the other team carrying it.

Balance issues aside, seeing the same gun over and over is pretty annoying. I pray for CG spammers to join my games.

Nah, just bitching about a particularly bad group of people I played with earlier.

Who happened to use nothing but M60s. And still lost.

It was a very long and boring match. This game can be great fun, but when you're up against a team of 4 recons/8 medics who never leave their spawn to attack (don't know how, or don't wanna ruin the K/D), the matches get extremely tedious.

Until about 20 tickets left, when the recons remember they have mortars. Then around 10 tickets left they actually start attacking. Congratulations, you now know how every Rush match plays out on the 360.

I'm going to only earn kills by running people over. Those island maps might be a bit tough...

I have yet to score a boat kill.

    This vexes me.

The new rush map works pretty well for this. Find a decent spot to sit and start lobbing grenades at the defenders area. You're bound to hit somebody.

You can also run people over with your boat
    risky, but oh so satisfying

I've tried running someone over by beaching the boat, but all it got me was an earful of blablablawhatryoudoinnubblablabla

Ever just stood still, not hidden but not out in the open and then proceeded to NOT move while the entire enemy team swarms around you then rushes past, without even a sideways glance?

Sometimes I feel so... so... invisible. :(

Then the knife makes the remember who I really am, deep inside.

So I was playing Port Valdez, attacking. The game starts, and in literally 5 minutes we've taken the first two bases. I've got 15 kills and 0 deaths. These guys are total scrubs. Only they completely stonewall us at the third base and we don't get either MCOM. Shame. Still awesome fun while it lasted, though.

I've played a few games like that. We take the bases super fast, then the defenders manage to hold us on the very last MCOM.

You guys are still going on about CG and the M60?

...I think I'm done with this thread for a while.

I feel bad for people that have to play this on the 360..

yeah, and sadly, people call this camping in order to divert attention away from the fact that they're just stupid.

So, the R9 announcement got kinda glossed over at the end of the previous thread, so here are the new update details:
    • admin.say command implemented
      - the output currently looks a bit funky on the game client, like so: Player: [Server]:
but with the next game client it will look like: Server:
    • admin.yell to squad has changed (you need to specify both team and squad)
    • squad numbering has changed – the “no squad” squad has ID 0, and real squads are 1 and up.
    • Autobalance improved, it shuffles people both during and between rounds now, and does a better job.
    • mapList* commands reworked
    • banList* commands reworked
    • listPlayers command added
    • admin.listPlayers command reworked (GUID, kills, deaths, ping and score added)
    • Players have non-PB GUIDs now (these are distinct from PB GUIDs)
    • onChat event reworked
      - now it specifies target player subset as well
      - shows text before profanity filtering
      - client-originated chat messages starting with “/” make it to the server, and broadcast via onChat, but are not broadcast to other game clients
      - use “/!” if you want to be able to send commands to your homemade rcon tools without showing the commands to other players
    • player.onAuthenticated added
    • player.onSquadChange, player.onTeamChange implemented
    • Couple of crash fixes
    • Support for “region” setting
    • banList.save bugfixed
    • mapList.nextLevelIndex is always pointing out which map will be run during the next round (so during round 1 on a 2-round map, the nextLevelIndex will point to the map currently being played)
    • exposed number of rounds per maps in maplist.txt, and via the remote admin commands
[Specify # of rounds per map]

I sure hope the autobalance works

It will be nice to have a better auto-balance mode. When your team gets rolled repeatedly it's hard to have fun.

I wish ATI cards would get a patch for the long load times. The other night I had to wait so long the first 2 points were already taken.

I think ATI is on the hook for this one, as they need to get their DX10 shaders to load a lot faster.

And, as has been stated many times before, we need a customizable pre-round timer so bad.

Yeah, it's pretty frustrating to wait for the game to load, join in, and then immediately hear "BIG POPPA 2 WE LOST THE FIREBASE WE'RE FALLING BACK!"
