So I bought 4 tickets to a local theme park (Wonderland) off the internet from a local discount forum (redflagdeals) at what I thought was a reasonable price. Two of my friends back out so I scalp the tickets to a lovely couple.

Turns out the tickets were bought with stolen credit cards. After talking to the cops I got let go no charge, but banned from the park. I did get my money back from the guy I bought the tickets from.

    Was this a scam?

About a week ago some guy showed up at my parent's house asking for $10 for gas money to go see his sister, and that it was very important. I forget why he needed to see his sister, some kind of family emergency or something. He said he lived right down the street (pointing down the street as he said this), and that he would come back and repay the money afterwards.

My dad, naturally suspicious, asked him if he had any sort of debit or credit card that he could use to get money from an ATM or pay for gas with. He said no, his sister had all his cards. Then my dad asked him why he couldn't get some money from his (closer) neighbors, or a friend. His neighbors weren't home, he said, and his friends were at work.

At this point my dad pretty much knew it was bullshit, but he decided to mess with the guy a little. "Wait a minute", my dad said, "I have some gas in the garage." (which he did). The guy said that wouldn't work because he didn't have a funnel. "Wait, I've got one of those, too" my dad replied. He went and got the funnel. "Oh, that won't fit in my gas tank, it's too big" says the stranger. This was the perfect response; "But wait, I've got a smaller one!" my dad says (also true). He gets it and shows it to the guy-- but no, that one won't work either (of course). The guy finally gives up, says something like "thanks anyway," and walks off to go try and scam some other people.

I have to wonder how much money he makes from it, $10 at a time. Sadly, it's probably a decent amount.

It seems like he could have called the police during one of those "let me get you some gasoline" trips and had the guy arrested.

I think. Can they arrest someone for something like that?

Good question, I'm not sure. I would think not, unless the guy kept coming back repeatedly.

I mean, it's not illegal to beg for money, and I'm sure lots of bums ask for money for "food" then spend it on booze/drugs... but I don't think you can give money to a bum then follow them to the liquor store and have them arrested.

Again though, not positive on that. Maybe that's not a comparable analogy.

Do I look like a lawyer to you?

Also, would it be illegal to fire your gun off into the air as a response to his asking for money/stepping onto your property? Let's say it's a reasonable person and therefore the gun is loaded with blanks.

Jesus Christ dude. Just say no and tell him to leave. You only need to even think of calling the cops if he won't go away. And you only need to even think about using a gun if he is threatening you or your family. Guns aren't fucking toys.

Edit: and loading the gun with blanks is an even worse idea because then they think you have a gun and what if they happen to actually have a gun on them? Then they have a gun and you don't.
