First Chess Tournament (Second Round matches are set!)

ThanatosThanatos Registered User regular
edited July 2007 in Critical Failures
This is PA's first ever (to my knowledge) double-elimination random-seed Chess tournament. You have a 1-hour player clock (longest game time is 2 hours). The player whose name is listed first will be white. You may use whatever method of playing you can both agree on, but the default is Yahoo! Chess. If you have a stalemate, you have to switch colors and play another game. The round 1 tournament window starts at 12 in the morning, Friday, April 27th, and ends at 12 at night, Thursday, May 10th (i.e. you have all day this Friday, and all day May 10th). If you are having trouble contacting your opponent, let me know in a timely manner (don't come to me on the 9th). Don't cheat, don't be a douche. Make sure you both record all of the moves in your game, and both let me know who won. If I have to actually start monitoring games, I'm going to be very pissed. I may start up the next tournament window early, if everyone finishes before the 10th, otherwise it will start 12am, the morning of the 12th (yes, I need a day to put the next bracket together).

Round 2 ends at midnight the night of May 28th. Have your game in by then!

Round 2:

Winners' Bracket:

Bedlam (b) v. Moriarty (w)

SanderJK (w) v. Hylianbunny (b)

Munkus Beaver (w) v. Xiears (b)

B:L (b) v. Legoman05 (w)

Visiblehowl (b) v. Cj iwakura (w)

Megaman001 (w) v. Folken Fanel (b)

Moniker (w) v. Thorgot (b)

Losers' Bracket:

Cosmic Sombrero v. BYE

Kdrudy (b) v. Nerissa (w)

Kusuguttai (w) v. Siliconenhanced (b)

Feral (w) v. Abysmal Lynx (b)

Tarranon (w) v. Mtvcdm (b)

Oboro (b) v. Lord Cecil Eaglelaser (w)

Cantide (b) v. Ramius (w)

Round 1 results:
Bedlam (w) v. Cosmic Sombrero (b)

Digger Dude (w) v. Moriarty (b)

Kdrudy (w) v. SanderJK (b)

HylianBunny (w) v. Nerissa (b)

Munkus Beaver (w) v. Kusuguttai (b)

Xiears (w) v. Siliconenhanced (b)

B:L (w) v. Feral (b)

Abysmal Lynx (w) v. Legoman05 (b)

Visiblehowl (w) v. Tarranon (b)

Mtvcdm (w) v. Cj iwakura (b)

Megaman001 (w) v. Oboro (b)

Folken Fanel (w) v. Lord Cecil Eaglelaser (b)

Moniker (w) v. Cantide (b)

Thorgot (w) v. Ramius (b)

Irond Will (w) v. Thanatos (b)

Grundlterror (w) v. Elkamil (b)

I'm putting the winners in yellow, apparently. Thank you, Ramius. :P

PM your opponent ASAP to try to set up a convenient meeting time.

I.. would do this, I think.

I have what one would call a passing interest at best in chess, but even as an amateur I still enjoy the game.

What kind of time limit are you thinking per round (from the time matchups are announced to when they have to have played their game)?

I was thinking probably 2 weeks, which should be more than enough time. I might extend it if there are many stalemates that have to be replayed.

I have no idea how to record this info, Yahoo chess doesn't record it automatically does it?

In! I was the absolute worst in high school chess club-- I even got beat by this jock's ditzy-ass cheerleader girlfriend, who was in the room and stopped to play me for the express purpose of humiliating me, to the tune of her boyfriend's constant, roiling chortle.

Since then, I have carried a heavy burden that may only be lifted by vengeance.

/me dramatically slams a chess clock beside her, exclaiming, "May the game begin!

The easiest way to accomodate this would be to just set a day or two for the match to take place, and let the two players coordinate it.

I'm gonna allow, like, two weeks per round, just in case we have to get in a couple of games due to stalemates. You just have to find a time that works for both you and your opponent in that two weeks.

I've only played a few times, but everyone else seems as new and it would be a good chance to get better.

Set up a board next to the computer, move on the board as the other person moves on the computer. Nothin' wrong with that.

I would visit you more at H&A, but my upper theshold of possible advice ends with "put it in da butt," and we both know how well that flies over there. (even though I still think it's good advice)

As for the help part, I don't think "How do I ask my boss out?" would work well either. D:
