"Alright, well I suppose we should split up to cover more ground. Give me a ring on my phone if you find anything.". As Stan looks out over the mall, he begins to wish they had gotten better directions. Malls always made him uncomfortable.
So I suppose this is some sort of extended investigation action?

It can be, depending on what avenue your characters take with investigating the area. Visiting a shop, talking to persons on the street... it's their call to make.

    ___________

The hall leading to Room 147 is mostly deserted, with the exception of a single officer seated outside the door.

He appears just as disinterested with his surroundings as the receptionist, if not more so. The man is reading an open newspaper, a local digest focusing on corruption in the senate races and the recent killings.

The door beside him is closed.

Well, seeing as I am the necromancer I will attempt to talk to any of the local ghosts I can find. Hopefully ones that are at least partially sane.

If there are not enough spirits to talk to then I will switch to people.

Justin nods, "I doubt many of the living around now would have been around when the woman was taken, except maybe the security guards. Maybe there are some homeless around I can talk to."
I'll try talking to the guards and homeless to see if any of them noticed anything.

"Alright, Justin, let's go talk to this cop first, see if he knows anything. We'll catch up with you in a bit, Stan. Call me if you find something interesting."

Daphne approaches the door to Room 147 slowly, paying no mind to the officer. Then she stops and backs a few steps away.

"Do I knock, or should I just go on in?" she says, her eyes on the door. "They said I should just go on in, but it seems rude."

Daphne starts and stops herself again, before turning to face the officer, her face awash in a nervous grin. "Could you knock for me? I don't know if I'm up to this."

There are not many from the other side in the vicinity of the mall. If any are present, they can not be seen.

For the moment, it seems only the living can be of use.

None of the locals present appear to be homeless, just middle class at worst.

The officer eventually passes by the small group, and gives them an expectant look.
"You boys must not be from around here, otherwise you'd be at home in this weather."

    ______________

"I could do that, miss, but I'm obligated to ask what your business is with the kid. Lucky to be alive, doctors said they don't want anyone getting him all riled up or nothin'.

    You all with the press?"

Daphne nods, "Yup." She waves her arms towards Lindsey and Tommy down the hall. "Just the three of us. We're not here to rile anyone, just to see if we can get a nice friendly chat in. It's one of the differences they're trying to stress for print media these days - getting to know the people you're interviewing so you can come back at a later date and follow up on the story." She smiles, "A lot different from the tv crews who just want to chew you up and spit you out and never bother to follow a story for longer than the next soundbite."

"Yeah, that TV reporter chick is a pain. There's only one major local network around here, so if anything goes down that isn't national news, she's the first one you'll see. Crazy vulture.

You all go on in, just be careful." The officer gives the door a knock, and without hearing an answer, opens the door for the group.

The steady beeping of a life support system can be heard. The room's lone occupant appears bedridden, and heavily sedated, but conscious.

Tommy holds the door open for the ladies, then closes it behind them, staying out in the hall. He turns to the guard and strikes up a conversation, trying to make sure the women have the privacy they need.

"Room's too small for all of us anyway. Looks you've had a long night, bud. It fairly quiet around here usually?"

Grady takes a slow drag from his cigarette before answering.

"You got us pegged, officer. We're here looking into the recent murders. This is Stan, from the coroner's office, and Justin, our crime scene specialist. I'm Grady Daniels. We're looking into evidence that the most recent victim was kidnapped from this area. Have you noticed anything suspicious here recently?"

As he speaks, Grady flips out his P.I. license for the officer to look over.

Lindsey sips at her newly purchased coffee, walking towards the end of the bed. She leans her hands against the metal near the occupants feet, and tilts her head quizzically at the patient.

    'Hello?'

She lets a beat pass and then follows up with a gently worded question

'Hello...? We're from the press, we've got a few questions to ask, if you feel up to answering them of course..?'

Stan flashes his badge, uninterested, and continues to scribble in his notebook. He was reaching his fill of cops for the evening and the lack of supernatural elements in the case were beginning to worry him.
