I just realised that the ~6-8 months old puppy here has more scars than my 18 year old childhood dog had by the end of his life.
In unrelated news, I can't express in words how awesome it is to live in 2010, with internet enabling me to talk with my parents and good friends and cell phone coverage allowing me to keep in touch with a friend currently on the Andaman Islands.
Is said friend going to North Sentinel?
Whoops, internet crashed.
She's there for another 3 weeks ( ) so I'm sure she'll drop by that island as well. Why are you asking?
Because nobody drops by that island.
It is the last native population on the planet to remain almost entirely uncontacted by modern society.

My Swordmage is a history buff as well.
The builder didn't give me very many options, I only had three that corresponded to my three best ability scores so I chose those.
It is Choco's birthday as of 2 hours and 45 minutes ago. Happy birthday Choco! We were exiled out of his room because his dad is sleeping there for some reason, so he's fast asleep in his mom's room. I was cuddled up to him for a while and just nuzzling my nose against his pulse but the snoring + new location means I basically can't sleep.

Some books (or DnDInsider) have optional benefits called backgrounds. Basically if your character matches a certain background, he gets a small skill bonus or an additional language... some minor boon relevant to his backstory.
I'm playing a Striker/Defender hybrid, and I've managed to synergize them both pretty well. I can tank quite well and deal a goodly amount of damage. Obviously, a pure striker or defender would do either of those things individually better than me, but I am pretty good at both.

They also get a huge KICK ME sign on their backs for the DM

So for the background thing I just select six backgrounds from the list?
You can only get one background bonus.
To clarify, you can pick a bunch of backgrounds (I chose four!) but only one gives you a tangible in game benefit.
I chose four backgrounds because they round out the character's parentage, early life, a pivotal event that changed him, and what he's been doing recently.
I miss grade school when you could just walk up to people and say "will you be my friend?" and they would go "yes!" and you would share juice boxes and talk about pokemon.

DM's tend to forget about those sorts of things after a session or two anyway.
They never work them into the campaign or make them key plot points at any rate.
Grrr, I want to play a hybrid but we already have a lot of strikers so I'll have to shelf my rogue/sorcerer for now. :x
Would a striker/leader hybrid work? Or are there special rules for hybrids?
they're really quite confusing. I would not suggest it for a first character
Hm... ok. I'll just stick to a pure class, then.
There are a couple dozen different classes, I'm sure you'll find one that strikes you as cool
I've found some that sound cool. I just don't know what some of them do, and won't until I get home later tonight. I think I'm gonna try my really shitty phone browser and read a bit if I can, though (runepriest\seeker sounds kinda cool, but I have NO idea what the classes consist of).

Perfectly safe.

I'd help but I'm not familiar with the PHB3 classes either :P

Technically, yes, but you'll have a hard time getting much synergy out of it.

Yes, sir.
I can handle it.
I just want to do a rogue/sorcerer and we don't need any more strikers.
I could also do an avenger/wizard which is striker/controller but Swordmage sounds cooler than that.

So far I am thinking elven elven. Though now I want to take another look at elladrin.
Like, if we went on a tear through some Eladrin/Tiefling village I'd be for it.
edit:
and this is why
aww
happy birthday choco!

This!
Also the snuggling thing sounds nice. The snoring not so much though.
I'll pass a happy-b-day along through you too.

Honestly I think the way this is being set up the more the merrier. It's up to you of course.
This is the right way to use backgrounds :^:
