oh wait, maybe it is the objectification of women even through a digital medium!
thats what it is!
We inherently objectify people though, we can't not.
yeah but there are levels
also "I play female characters because they allow me to become more immersed due to skills/abilities/the character model being better animated (as is the case with WoW...human males look terrible but the females look pretty good!)"
My difficulty here may stem from the fact that I just got in and don't know what you guys are talking about specifically, but why is creating an aesthetically pleasing character creepy now?
I have way more of a problem with the number of posts along the lines of 'I'm a dude and I use a female avatar to con other dudes out their phat lootz' because god damn, assholes, way to make it even more difficult to be a female on the internet.

"Cuz if I'm gonna be looking at an ass all day, it better be female."
"Dude, it's pixels on a screen."
"DAT ASS!"

Did you ever read the SA saga on doing this in EQ back many years ago? It's amazing and hilarious in it's patheticness of the male population.

the question was "why do you play a girl character" and someone was like "well in a third person shooter i'd rather look at a lady's ass than a dude's for hours"
and people are like "damn dude stop slobberin' ya perv"
but then it got sucked into the feedback of "women are temples don't actually say they are pretty or you are a monster who is one day going to serial rape and murder young women"

...No it doesn't...I mean, I find it totally creepy but it's your use of the world "only" that screams out "LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO OUTRAGE AGAINST"
fair enough; but this is still sexism, fullstop.
No it's not.
glad to see we get to the point where we just argue Yes and No back and forth this quickly
Arch, you can't just say "its still sexism, fullstop." and not expect to be challenged in an equally abrupt way. Like I said, I find it creepy but it's not objectifying or sexist. It doesn't fall under the definition of either. You're looking for something to be outraged at and it's just not there.

well yeah, but the fact that I'm attracted to females and not males, isn't sexism that is bad.

No, and it probably was kind of funny, but it also leads to guys on the internet going absolutely fucking nuts on anyone who has the temerity to act detectably female online, because that means you "want attention". You can't possibly just be being yourself.

Well if we want to pick nits and say that a preference based on sex is sexism, then yes. You seem to be implying that it is bad in this case and that's where things go fuzzy for me.

dude that is not what we are saying at all
I am just pointing out that the initial statement of "well in a third person shooter i'd rather look at a lady's ass than a dude's for hours" is a pretty sexist thing to say because it implies that in this context the male character exists not to provide sexual satisfaction yet the female avatar does

I make female characters sometimes because why the hell not? Mostly in games where there's lots of voice acting and what not, so I can get the other half of the recorded dialog. Case in point: Mass Effect.

this, quoted to make a point, is my response to justin, abbdhy (i think?) and bama
It implies that the male character does not provide sexual satisfaction, yet the female character does. It's quite another thing to talk about the designers' intent, though I guess you could point out that game designers are overwhelmingly more likely to be male.

Are you assuming there's more than one MM post to argue with?
Heh.

is not the same as
"i play female characters because dat ass!"
Sometimes I wish PA had the :psyduck: emote from SA. Or some other sort of "my brain asplode" version.

I have slept three hours in the last 48. I can't write like a normal person.
they are all the same post
"I am a rich white male who is happy being a cultural oppressor"
...No it doesn't...I mean, I find it totally creepy but it's your use of the world "only" that screams out "LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO OUTRAGE AGAINST"
i don't see that the first suggests the second
I could see where the first would imply that ONE of the function of a lady is to provide dat ass. But not the it is the only one.
fair enough; but this is still sexism, fullstop.
No it's not.
things are women
The set of all women is a subset of the set of all things.
because sometimes creeping isn't actually creeping
i mean in this case it is a little creepy
but finding women sexually attractive isn't creepy
the "ugh stop skeeving on that girl" thing is just ridiculously commonplace and overused, in any instance
theres some overlap with the set of dudes who look girly enough after 4 beers
Men who look like lesbians?
some just like 'em bunches

modelers seem to spend more time making female characters look good
