Cats are terrible. Whenever I'd start messing around with my last girlfriend, our cat would hop up and want attention. When we tried locking him out of the room, he'd spend the whole time scratching at the door.

Man, the two party system fucking sucks.

On the other, the Republicans are the fucking Republicans.

While it's bloated, doomed to financially implode, and way to reaching, at least healthcare reform and universal healthcare is something important. We already pay for healthcare for those without it via taxes or the extreme costs and charges to those of us with healthcare.

It's at least reality. It's an 800 pound gorilla in the room we must take care of.

I dunno I mean I disagree with the dude's stance

but to me it is more interesting and worthwhile to engage him seriously than just dismiss him out of hand

I mean he is obviously not literally a crazy person

He is not wiping down your windshield at a red light while arguing with his dog who is also Lucifer

Personally I would argue with the dude on the grounds that

    (a) rights don't exist except in law

    (b) privacy is not an inherent good, and actually I think the more we move away from it the better

    (c) morality hinges upon self-awareness

Every argument is worth having, even those against people who are really far out there, because at the bare minimum you are honing your own beliefs and critical thinking ability

dude i am so all for the panopticon

privacy is a recent invention anyway

motherfuckers ain't have much privacy in the hunter-gatherer ancestral environment

privacy is just another way of saying you want to control how people perceive you to your own benefit, even if that hurts others or is untruthful

It's about holding the upper-hand over folks, about helping to ensure your dominance. But when we all do it, it sort of just cancels out and adds psychological burden and enables us to do shitty things to other people

privacy is something we want, but not something that makes us happy. It's always important to remember that what we desire is very often not what will actually make our lives better. It might help the genes that promote that desire to reproduce, but that's very different from individual well-being

Yeah, you're right. Privacy is such a silly notion. Someone shouldn't be able to keep the fact that they're HIV positive private if they want to, or that they're homosexual. Just get everything out in the public domain so bigoted assholes can have even more reasons to persecute people that are different.

If you don't like it, then move to some 3rd world country. It's not a matter of over zealous government control, it's a matter of as technology and society moves forward there has to be things implemented to spread the technology and information quickly. We can't wait for your doctor to teletype your records, therefor we may have to beam them over to County General Ms. Smith.

People complained when phone lines and power lines were put up. They shot at the workers, thinking they were stealing land or heaven forbid putting in control rays. UPC scanners were the work of satan to track your spending and tattle to the IRS. Contrails from airplanes are actually the spreading of chemicals from the government. Fluoride in drinking water is a way to control you because it lets the satellite beams react better. Seriously...people believe this shit.

Eventually we will be microchipped, to carry all of our personal information, medical and financial records, and as a way to ID ourselves. We will have a cashless society, because paper money is too easy to counterfeit and the transactions are an easy way to hide criminal activity. When the aliens finally do take over, the microchip will release the poison and the end will be quick. Hail Xenu.
