fox news correspondent called Mr. Rogers an "evil, evil man"

but see, the fact that they're bigoted toward him is the real problem so if people actually committed violence against him as bigots it's not really as important as the simple fact that they were bigots apparently

it's like some kind of meta crime where being a bigot is the crime so since you're already guilty you might as well throw rocks at some homos, it doesn't make it any worse I guess

again how is this concept hard to understand

privacy doesn't effectively protect people from bigotry

privacy has its own negative consequences (even if it's illegal, it doesn't mean it doesn't happen)

therefore, on the balance, it's bad.

I mean you can disagree but it's not like it's a fundamentally ridiculous stance

Also you missed the whole part of the argument where I made the point that the decision to keep things private out of a fear of retribution is often a really bad idea

Because (a) it helps maintain the status quo of bigotry (as evidenced by the fact that those who learn someone they know is gay are less likely to be anti-gay rights; therefore honest interaction encourages acceptance. As I said earlier in the thread, you don't get social change by being meek and private) and (b) because many people realize once they've come out that it's much much better than being in the closet. Fear keeps them from doing what ultimately bears out as a much more preferable option.

Bob and Tom have worked together for twenty years. But what Bob doesn't know is that once or twice a week, Tom likes to take it up the ass from his wife and her eight-inch strap-on. What Tom doesn't know is that Bob likes to spend his weekends drinking fuzzy navels and watching bad romantic comedies. Because they keep these things secret from each other, they are able to work together in an environment of mutual respect, regardless of what the other might think about their private lives.

    NIGHTMARE SCENARIO!
