I'm really not the person who should be making this thread, however I do like both free things and giant robots.

Mechwarrior 4 is being given away for free (legally!) at the following website

of course it's getting pretty slammed so I figured I'd make it worse by making a thread about it

I'll give it a shot, these games always seemed a bit complex to me because I am a CONSOLETARD but what the hell.

Discuss robots and mechs and the like.

    Is this the one that's supposed to be a reboot of the franchise? A remake of the original Mechwarrior or perhaps MW2?

    no mechwarrior 4 came out some years ago, they are re-releasing it for free to GET HYPE for Mechwarrior 5 which is supposedly coming out sometime this century

    Holy shit fucking FINALLY.

    This has been in the pipes for MONTHS but it was delayed because of legal battles like crazy.

    Same thing is happening to Mechwarrior 5 (A.k.a: Mechwarrior.) One of the mechs supposedly looks a lot like one of the robotech things so they sued and put the game on hold for who knows how long. It might not even come out. Hopefully it will though.

    edit: And when I say months, I mean I was expecting it sometime around last November

    my favourite loadout was
    I think the chassis was called a puma? it was the smallest one available, long legs, really hunched over

    it was bare-bones except for the most powerful engine I could mount, some jump jets, a heat sink or two, and a fuckload of flamers
    fly out of nowhere, hit the ground running, keep dodging the big guys' shit and cook them inside their cockpit

    god, so much fun

    In mechwarrior 3 the Atlas or Daishi were the biggest. Nova was big but not that big

    edit: wait the Atlas was only in the expansion for 3. It was in 4 though along with the Daishi/Dire wolf

    Nova was a small mech, but could mount lots of lasers.

    Mechwarrior 3 was the best Game for damage effects, weapon effects, balance, and story.

    But goddamn that was some horrible netcode.

    Then Microsoft got a hold of it and fixed the netcode but assfucked all the rest of it up in 4.

    The Nova Cat was gigantic and had all energy weapons. Overheated like a mother.

    Also yeah in Mechwarrior 3 multiplayer you needed to know how to lag-shoot. Not just leading a target, but leading it by enough to compensate for lag
