Quite interested in this game, the only negative I can see is the main character is generic, looks and sounds like other characters. He's about as bland as can be.
To be honest, I thought Mark Meer sounded a LOT more bland. But even he was good enough for Mass Effect (at least I thought so, I rarely felt as if he felt flat in any major areas, and I thought he tended to come through really well on the important bits), so this guy actually sounds just fine to me.
As for looks, watching some of the other trailers, whilst he's got the same facial structure, it looks like you can really personalise his appearance a lot with the difference hairstyles and accessories.

He's a spy. Spys (in the real world) don't usually need to be extremly good looking or "special" looking people. In fact its probably one of the worst features a spy can have, despite what litrature and movies tell us. From that point of view.... I'm okay with bland.

This is entirely correct. In fact, the whole reason James Bond is named James Bond is because Ian Fleming was looking for the most generic, non-standout name possible. The number one rule of spy theory is not to be recognized. You want to be just another face in the crowd, who doesn't stand out.
And any complaints about genericness are totally invalidated by the fact that if you want, you can put Mike in a lumberjack beard, aviator sunglasses, a russian hat, and a hawaiian shirt. If he's generic, it's because you're not making him not look generic.
Well, the voice acting probably plays a bit of a role in people seeing him like that too. I'd post the video with the wisecracks like the one with the fire extinguisher, but I forgot which one it was.

That's not quite the issue I got so much as he looks like a bunch of other characters, like the one from Infamous and another game or two which is just so damn generic.

Yes, but again, you have a huge amount of customization options to put on the guy. They just use the bare minimum Mike Thorton for promotional stuff, you're free to make him look as non-generic as you want. Change up his haircut, give him a tan, pop on a backwards baseball cap and throw him in some desert camo body armor and have him try to talk his way into a fancy dinner party. THAT'S generic?

That's good indeed.
I'm just saying as they show him and how he is normally is still beyond generic, bland, boring and uncreative as possible.
Im going to try and dress for every occasion since I can. I remember going to huge effort in San Andreas to find the perfect outfit for the casino heist, ended up with a machete, demin dungarees and a jason mask.
Then it FORCES you to wear a certain outfit ><
But Im not gonna make him look like a prat in the picture above.
Boring. So generic. Blergh, I'm so sick and tired of game designers going for the lazy "Sunglasses, beard, and russian hat" character OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Still, you're options for having both genders are to either have almost double the voice acting, or use really awkward workarounds like in DAO.

Yeah, I was skeptical about SEGA caring about advertising after all the weird NDAs, but they're really steping up with the week long specials and the commercial during 24.
I recently found out about this game from the Gamestop commercials. I thought it looked kind of stupid, but I felt that I needed to check it out. Now I will probably be picking this up.

The power of advertising at work!
Advertising works with games that are actually good. Most of the time. And a good game, this is.
Time for me to start getting envious of people who are just now finding out about this and Red Dead Redemption, instead of getting excited about them a YEAR ago and watching them push back month after month.
I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYING THEM LAST OCTOBERRRRR.

No kidding. I actually preordered this on Steam when it was briefly available last year. It's been sitting there on my games list for months, taunting me!

Just be glad it chose [TAUNT] rather than [HEADSLAM].
I guess I got off easy with not giving a shit about this game until a few months ago. When it got day-one delayed all those weeks back, I was just amused at how poorly it was being handled. Then I started getting into it and now I'm all excited for it.

It's hard enough making the game super reactive when they only have to account for one gender.
And being a woman isn't part of the spy fantasy, and neither is being gay, so you can't be either.
actually lesbian tramp spy is a pretty awesome mental image.... hrmmm i think i should go replay No One Lives Forever... :winky:
Yeah, stupid awesome.

They've stated before that literally the only reason there's no female to play as is because they didn't have enough time/money to hire one.
So if you want to see badass female spies in video games, make sure to give Obsidian all your monies.

I don't think it's in development, I think it's just in the talks. It'd be in the pre-planning stages at this point, anyway.
