What's important is that you keep active, and don't overdo it on sugars.

Diabetes would suck, but not nearly as much as it would 100 years ago. Go medical technology. But still I should stop being such a disgusting fatbody.

every male on both sides of my family has type 2 diabetes. the only one trying to do anything about it is my dad, so he is borderline. he bikes a good 10-15 miles a day and lifts weights.

    anyways yeah,

my uncle has lost an entire foot so far due to gangrene from diabetes. He is confined to a wheelchair and refuses to change his eating habits. The guy is like 50 and he is practically on a suicide mission.

not to mention the rage fits and craziness. Dude ate a steak with his bare hands the other week at a restaurant and then refused to pay the bill.

I have zero sympathy for anyone with Type-II that is non-complaint, Zero.

really that applies to any non-compliant diabetic, but Type-II in particular.

Type 2 Diabetes is when the pancreas decides to be a lazy prick and not pump out enough insulin, or the body just decides to ignore it.

Type 1 is when the pancreas stops making it altogether, and you're forced to rely on artificial insulin to keep your glucose in check, either with manual syringes or an insulin pump that you keep attached to yourself.

dude, i totally agree. Though is it kinda sad and a little weird to pretty much watch your uncle literally waste away from gangrene while still getting fatter.

do you need insulin shots for type II?

my grandma is pretty sickly and mostly wheelchair bound so I have to help her inject insulin whenever she visits

sounds like type-II that's advanced onto insulin therapy.

It can be that way, but it depends on the severity. A lot of type II's manage just fine with pills, and don't have to take shots.

Dad's family all has diabetes including him
I have to look out for it
On the plus side, I eat better than them, regularly exercise and don't drink alcohol nearly as much as they did
On the minus I have a terrible, terrible addiction to candy

This one girl shows up in our ER on at least a monthly basis in DKA. Last time she had a pH of 6.8(really fucking bad) and she had a cardiac arrest from it and ended up on life support. So we fix her acidosis and get her glucose under control, get her off life support and send her to the floor. The next day she signs out AMA from the floor and doesn't even bother filling her Insulin scripts.

Type 1 Diabetes really sucks, but this girl is basically committing suicide and its really sad.

Obese type 2 diabetics who don't care for themselves and bitch about losing limbs are just dicks.

I look at it this way, I've been given the ultimate get-out-of-jail-free card.

Regardless what I do, my diabetes is so brittle, that if necessary, with little to no real effort, I'm dead inside a month. Probably 3 weeks. So, if I ever get to a point where I simply do not give a shit anymore, and I want to be a coward, there we go. Life insurance still pays out.
