Jesus God Harvest Moon has Become a Labyrinth

and I cannot figure out what the fuck, so I call upon the experience of H/A for this pretty simple question related to video games.

I used to love Harvest Moon for the SNES. and then also for n64.

Now I want to play it again, but my SNES is borked. I have an n64, a DS, a Gamecube, and a Wii.

Which is the most recent, most awesome version of Harvest Moon that is like the SNES one (farm, raise animals, make fat monies, get a girl and make a babby, etc?) and not like, I don't know, a puzzle or adventure game or whatever all these new ones are?

I'd prefer to play on my DS, so if the answer to my first question about isn't a DS game, what would the answer be if I were limited to only my DS (or would there not be an answer?)

Thanks!

I would say Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, which is a GBA game, so play it on your DS.

    This is the correct answer.

Harvest Moon DS is incredibly buggy (For example, there's a bug that randomly gives you several billion gold during the winter, for no reason. It just happens randomly and nobody is sure why) and has some kinda annoying mechanics (Harvest Sprites have been kidnapped and you need to some insane shit to rescue them so you can get married and other stuff) that get in the way of the game. If it didn't have that stupid mechanic, it'd be lovely.

The thing with Harvest Moon DS is that it is entirely too glitchy if you end up with an older version of the game. The version I play has a glitch that prevents me from marrying either the Witch princess or the Harvest Goddess. There is also no way to complete your Shipping ledger or your Recipe Box. There is also a glitch where you get like 1 billion dollars which takes a lot of the fun out of it. And this glitch is not one you have to actively seek out like a cheat. If you NEVER perform the actions to do the glitch and you don't mind not marrying either one of those girls and you don't mind incomplete lists, the game can be fun.
I mainly use the game to play Poker in the Harvest Sprite Casino if I'm having to wait around for an appointment or something. Occasionally, I'll play Blackjack.

By the way, the money glitch.
If you have the first or second version of this game, if you send your Sprites to help you with fishing in the ocean during the winter season, the money shows up in your Stat screen. Nice, I guess, but kind of ruins a lot of the fun.

A warning about FoMT. The save battery may well die on you after a while (lasted until about summer of year 4 for me) and you will feel like shit when/if it does.

Harvest Moon N64 is an amazing version, I'd recommend that.

Harvest Moon DS Cute is the girl version and has all of the bugs fixed. Of course, you have to be a girl. But you can marry the harvest goddess so it has that going for it.

Wasn't there lots of DS Harvest Moon games released in the past year or two?

Just looked on GameFAQs and apparently there is Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness, Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands (I think its the same game with new features from the reviews), and Harvest Moon: Frantic Farming. There is also another one coming out in a couple of months called Harvest Moon: Grand Bazaar. The first 3 all came out last year.

Frantic Farming is not a traditional Harvest Moon game. It's more of a Tetris-style puzzle game, I believe.

I really enjoy Harvest Moon Animal Parade. The pets are fucking awesome. It's on the Wii. Very classic, pets, wife/husband, baby, farm, crops, etc etc.

    Rune Factory is weird.

I think it's from the same people that made Harvest Moon. It's basically that plus magic and monsters.

So you farm potatoes and kill orcs or something. I have Rune Factory 2 and it's not so bad, well the women you marry look like little girls so there's that, I'm only mentioning it because it's similar and you may run across it at one point. In RF2 after marrying and having a kid you then play as that kid and you can marry again but you don't play as your grandkid.

You uh have to capture a "cow monster" though if you want milk and stuff, it's not like you just run into town and ask for a calf.

Harvest Moon for the game boy advanced however is quite decent and I recommend it as well. The sheep are so cute. D:

I think he was talking about not wanting Rune Factory but a traditional version.

I'm still playing Harvest Moon: Sunshine Islands.

It's pretty enjoyable. One of the more solid HM games I've played, though it can get tedious later if you're trying to win the approval of the entire town.

e: Otherwise I found it every bit as enjoyable as HM64 or HM Back to Nature.

The most recent one that I enjoyed was Harvest Moon: Magical Melody. (Gamecube)

Lots of crops, holidays, interesting time making friends with the neighbors, there's another farmer in town to compete with, and there's a quest to save the Harvest Goddess.

Plus, like nine people to choose from when it comes to courtin'. And you can pick if you want to be a boy or a girl.

Worlds better than any other HM released on the cube, and one of my favorite entries in the series.

You can't go wrong with Friends of Mineral Town, Magical Melody, or Animal Parade. All three are traditional HM games and are very solid titles.

I have nothing but good things to say about HM Tree of Tranquility for the Wii.

If does have recipes you can use to unlock things, but you certainly don't need to do them if you don't feel like it.

It's far and away my favorite aside from HM64

My sister has HMDS Cute and I borrowed it from her but I swear to god the touch controls are retarded.

Also friends of mineral town is kinda expensive! :(

You don't need touch controls for anything in HMDS except saving and rearranging stuff in your bag.

And the animal mini-games, if you play that way. Brushing, milking, shearing, and washing all require swiping across the screen.

You can ignore those if you just don't use the glove. You just can't get medium/large stuff and it takes forever to get hearts (Which are pointless if you can't get medium or large stuff)
