Some religious beliefs just shouldn't be legislated one way or another.

ESPECIALLY the sex-related ones. Maybe Catholics think abstinence, rather than teaching contraception, is a viable way to combat teen pregnancy. Guess what, its not, it sucks, is ineffective (this is objectively fact), they're dumb, and it should not be taught to school children. Let parents teach silly flawed methods themselves.

    Um....if you don't have sex you...can't...get...pregnant...

My secular school simply stated that abstinance is the only 100% effective method of birth control. That's pretty damn effective and it worked for me; I didn't father a child until I wanted to.

I get that it's fashionable to hate Catholics (and I don't agree with their views on sex) but the "fuck at all costs" hedonistic mentality is pretty silly and flawed as well. A 5-second orgasim is not the be-all, end-all of human existance and, if done recklessly, can hurt you and others. That's reason, not religion.

As a wise woman once said "A fully adult human being knows that their sexual behavior can never be considered casual, disconnected from deeper emotion or from consequence, unless one is a true sociopath."

You may have successfully abstained during your teenage years... but was that because you chose to, I wonder? Very few hetero teen males would be able to turn down a straight up offer to engage in coitus with an attractive female. To the point where I'd call most liars that claimed they had done so. Our biological imperative is that strong--it's the meaning of life, after all.

If there is a god, and he didn't want us to get off on a regular basis, he designed us very poorly.

If Jesus kills a kitten every time we masturbate, what does he do when we have a wet dream?

Sociopath is a pretty accurate term for that mentality.

And I still maintain that college retards development in some ways; it's nothing like "real life" and is truly extended adolescence for many who treat it as grades 13, 14, 15, and 16; goofing off while living off of their parent's dime or borrowed money which would make them, yes, not fully adults.

It doesn't have to be a choice between Hughe Hefner and Saint Augustine. I'm saying that sex is evil, but it's not god either. But on that note, a wise man...

    ...yeah him. Said something like:

    Life is pain.

    Paid is caused by desire.

To extinguish desire to is extinguish pain.

So, saying a life of reckless and irresponsible sexual behavior where you allow hormonal, animalistic, and inhuman desire to govern your life can lead to pain and unhappiness, in one's self and others, is not an unreasonable thing to believe.

Edit: Yes, I did turn down offers. It was hard, but you need to give human beings more credit. We're not animals, IMHO.

And while I love me some Buddhism I wouldn't use a religious figure to try to convince people about not having sex.

Yes, extinguishing desire is to extinguish life.

Anyway, reckless and irresponsible behaviors will cause pain whether or not the behaviors are sexual. Because that's kind of what reckless and irresponsible behaviors do.

Yeah I'm pretty sure sex education isn't meant to be about how you shouldn't have sex and that sex is evil, that class should just be called "sexual abstinence and how to never have fun...ed".

I think the curricula of extant US public school sex ed are actually very much "sex is evil," not really intentionally so much as because they necessarily spend some time discussing venereal disease, and pregnancy is fucking terrifying even if you aren't a grade-schooler. Our whole culture is so unbelievably twisted when it comes to sex though that I'm just surprised we've managed to get it together well enough to sometimes mention the existence of condoms to our citizens before they reach majority.

We should just be as biological and clinical as possible with sex ed, just say what it is and what it can lead to, and the reason we all do it.....

Because we're drunk and outside of crying in the shower we need something to fill the empty void inside.

i just hate the way they spend, like, 95% of the curriculum talking about the horrors of vd and teenage pregnancy, and maybe 5% actually teaching you how to have sex. Maybe 1 brief demonstration of how to use a condom, if you're lucky and have a good class, and then a little brochure on other methods of birth control. Nothing on at all different positions, or foreplay, or anything fun. Oh well, porn to the rescue i guess.

I don't think teenagers should be forced to endure terrible sex.

I want them to be happy.

I'm not saying, don't teach about STDs, but you CAN teach other stuff too, instead of just pretending it doesn't exist.

I was thinking more down the lines of that they should be taught how sex works, such as the little things like teaching guys about
The Hymen, and the biological set up of a vagina as well as a penis
, more about how to have sex safely in the use of different contraceptives and what they each do and how they do it (adding in how easy it is to buy protection). They should also teach males more about females periods, and both men and women more about things like premature ejaculation, being unable to maintain an erection, being unable to form lubrication as a female, and about how women need mental stimulation more than men do in a lot of cases, and why men find it easier to be quickly aroused.

These would help with social problems and stigmas as well as teaching teenagers why and how to do things right and when to do them right. We should also be teaching our children how often and how they should check their genitalia, and how to treat the parts of the opposite sex. Of course sexual fetishes should be discussed too. I just think that abstinence should never be the way of teaching about sex, and that a more rounded social, biological and physical view of sex should be taught.
