Thanks, Guy. April 17th is my deadline on that, because I've got a handful of folks coming down for a bookbinding party. Two pages down, only 10 to go. ha

unrelatedly, here's the pencils for my title print for my printmaking series:

    title.gif

The "EPIC" and the "A TALE OF..." lines will be solid black with white linework. I'll probably start carving that tomorrow or so.

Oh god, I wish I would have seen this earlier to make a crit about it. The wood grain and the feather seem to have a very similar texture/ ammount of texture so they blend together a bit too well. It sounds like you had the right idea about removing some of the wood texture, i think that would work- the opposite would be to make the feather lines lighter- more feathery and such.

However, I can see you being done with this already so.... I guess take this advice in a "for future use" kinda way?

And your current design looks pretty awesome- its fun but it also give the kids an idea of what they can do with the medium as well.

yeah, I plan on having the density of all of the wood roughly match that of the wood directly above "told." I think it would help. I haven't done it yet.

Also, I've cut the comic down from 12 pages to 8, simplifying the plot and focusing more on the introduction of people.

Here's my work on page 4 so far:
    pg4-1.gif

It's Kang showing up in a time portal and throwing "neural inhibitors" on the heroes, then walking nonchallantly through the field of paralyzed heroes with a series of midget robots hopping along with him.

Panel one of page four inked. I find it overly complex, and I hope to clarify the way the image is read through color.

    Ideas?

Yeah, it's kind of hard to differentiate the shapes. Maybe try a solid black background instead of having all the little particles.
    4ktuzt.jpg

You might not need to if the color works right though.

Thanks, I was having a hard time with the area filled in with dots, as I was trying to go pretty bright orange to begin with, but I opted to go deep violet because of your paintover, it also really helps that green portal show up better.

Does it read more clearly now?

Yeah it's not bad but it's kinda close to the color of the main figure. Maybe a bit darker purple would help?

it's apparently a Plaid brand Round #1 brush. I've been digging it. I need to work more on balancing light/dark, but I've been attempting to make up for it by really trying to maintain the readability through color. I seem to do better with some panels than others in that aspect though.

that is wild. mainly how quickly the ink appears to dry as he seems to rest his wrist almost immediately onto his work afterwards.

also, turns out we're not putting these together until the week of May 10th.

Its a little confusing to look at- I think since his "dream bubble" is so large but the general line weight doesn't change so everything looks like its on the same plane. That, and maybe the bubble could be more rounded?

It's a linocut print, so it's like a linoleum stamp. The brown is the raised area of the stamp. The white is what I've carved away. I can carve away more (change brown to white) but not add back to the stamp (change white to brown).

Does that make sense to you?
