ping problems

alright, I recently got back into DoD:S, but I've run into a small snag (other than I suck again)

my ping has increased to about 150-200, and it's annoying me immensely.

I'm on college internet, and have played DoD:S on it before, last time I played, my ping was a constant 40ms, no matter what server, now it's jumped to 150-200ms, no matter the server.

I ran a Hijack This scan and here's the results

I've turned down all graphics settings, and I can't still figure out how to stop getting kicked from servers :/

That's rather much more stuff than I'd ever allow to autorun and/or have constantly run in the background. Norton is probably the worst mainstream AV, it's a bloated, slow, resource hog. I'd also suggest uninstalling Real Player and all its attendant background running crap and use Real Alternative. While Spybot S&D is reputable and useful, what's this SpyEraser BS? Sounds like something my dad would get tricked into installing from a banner ad. Never mind Party Poker.

But speaking specifically to latency, how are you connected to the network, wire or wireless? What is the average speed of the network (use PCpitstop.com or similar)? When are you using the network (peak non-peak)?

well, I tried to test my ping at PCpitstop, it says it tried 4 packets and 4 packets lost

    :/

here's a thing though: it doesn't give me a C:\ in the command prompt, it makes me use C:\Documents and Settings\MyName>

Connected via an ethernet cord, plugged directly into the wall. I use the network at pretty much all times, both peak and non-peak are about the same ping.

you need to tracert <server ip>

With 100% packet loss at ye olde pcpitstop, I'd worry a little about your network integrity.

no, when I open up the tracert thingy, it pops up the command prompt window and then closes it, essentially not opening jack squat

Ugh, you need to go to Start > Run, type 'cmd' hit enter, you get the command prompt. Type 'tracert <insert ip address here>' then hit enter. It will then give latency for each hop, or tell you your ip address is wrong.

Hmm 100% packet loss on pcpitstop and no tracert to servers. You have big problems, try from command prompt 'ipconfig /flushdns' although there's probably something afoot here that I can't fix via forums.

What I find very funny is that you seem to have an app called SpyEraser and you're running Spybot S&D, and neither has picked up on "save.exe" (common spyware app)

All of the lines I've left above can be removed.

Additionally, try pinging a straight IP address from your command prompt (like 64.233.167.99 - google.com)
What kind of latency do you get? Does it go through at all? I'm also guessing that you have Symantec's suite of crap. The AV client is fine, but I know their Internet security tools can really screw with connections. Try disabling them/removing them.

Turn on the builtin firewall before disabling Norton, you never know what other people on a college network have picked up.
