He's crying on CBC, he's such a douche, but good for him

Whatever man, he just scored a goal, in the 90th minute, to put his team through to the round of sixteen. That's like boyhood dream shit for American soccer players. Give the guy a break, he's been our best player for years now...he deserves some emotion.

It's a long running thing Gnome :) I'm happy for him, but calling him a douche goes back to his Leverkussen years and even if he were to save the world from an alien invasion single-handedly, he'd still be a douche. It's really tongue-in-cheek.
    Also, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landon_Donovan#International_goals is already updated.

Yeah, Donovan is a pretty awesome clutch player, but he's still a total douche. Screamed like crazy when he scored though... and then settled into a quiet stupor of 'about fucking time.'

Thank god for Donovan. And seriously, Buddle and Altidore need to play up top together.

I swear I thought the ball would of just swiveled mid-shot and fly into the stands because that is how some of the US shots felt.

England side training regimen, June 24th-27th.

    Penalty Kicks.

    That is all.

Podolski missed the first German penalty in like thirty years. The Teutonic resolve is faltering; the Germans will blast them all over the bar, whilst every England player cooly gives the keeper the eyes and slots the ball into the far corner.

    She isn't holding that right.

*says the man who argues against the 2nd amendment*

If she's playing Internatonal Skeet, she is (or perhaps she just finished a shot, there are two spent shells at her feet).

One of the rules in International Skeet to make the game more challenging is the requirement to start the shot with the gun in the ready or "low gun" position. I'm going to guess she's standing at Station 6, it's hard to tell from the picture. Either way, she's clearly standing on a skeet field (the building in the background even says "Skeet Club").

I loved the time-staggered response here at the office (boss it out).

Co-worker listening to the radio: GOAL!
Me watching on my mini tv, 5 seconds later: DONOVAN GOAL!
Down the hall, co-worker watching a stream, 10 seconds later: FUCK YES GOAL!
I get a text from the dept head who stayed at home to watch the game, about 2 seconds later: AMERICA! GOAL!

I'm not clear on who we should be rooting for at the moment. I gather that playing Germany would be tougher than the other options, so what are the likely scenarios, and which is most favorable for the U.S.?

I'd rather play Serbia than Ghana, but I'd rather Ghana get through because I want to see an African nation in the round of 16. If Germany wins, they win the group and play England. So, we want Germany to win, and if you want an easier win for the US, you probably want Serbia, but if you want an African nation through, you want Ghana.

It'd be a 10-10 tie after extra time then Vietnam would go through by default after the Yanks walk off the pitch at 20-20 in the penalty shootout.

Plus I hate seeing the US play Germany, because Germany is like, my other team, with an entire side of my family living in Germany, and being of mostly German decent. I will always root for the US in that situation, but I still love me some Germany.

You don't want to play Serbia. They have a pretty strong attack, and judging by everything we've seen thus far, the Americans still can't defend comfortably. They would tear you to shreds. Ghana, on the other hand, has enough key players injured that it would be good for you guys to play them now.

I watched that Serbian game. Even though Germany were a man down due to dodgy refereeing, they were still dominating the game. Unlucky not to win and scary stuff for anyone that has to play them.
