I was browsing the release dates at gamestop...after crackdown 2 the gaming industry is going to be in a major slump as far as big retail titles go for quite a while. Because i know its so popular i assume that Halo Reach will stop the slump, but besides that, things dont look to be picking up until october.
I'm glad that xbox live at least will have castlevania and lara croft, but I dont expect them to last very long.
Anyone looking forward to anything between July-October besides halo? I was rather dissapointed that Dead Space 2 isnt going to make an october release.
Damnit i dont want to fall back to WoW again....I broke the addiction!
Edit: Your right, i did forget about SC2, so i will add it to the list. Still is a very short list.
I always like the dry spells, that means I can work on the games I bought and not buy new ones.
Yeah, couldn't agree more. I'm an avid gamer and have most consoles / handhelds... considering my broad interest in game genres I can barely keep up as is.
Also I need to learn to stop buying shiny new games.
I'm still not so sure about this "split SCII into three chunks" thing since I'm not so big on RTS multiplayer, but we'll see. It's a shame one of those shiny new MMOs on the horizon (GW2, TOR, FFXIV) couldn't make it out for the summer months; that's the only time I let myself play those.

Each chunk is allegedly as big as the original Starcraft, so if that's true then this person who isn't so big on RTS multiplayer will be happy.
Right, it's more the multi ppl that were pissed about it.
Why is that? Can't you play as all three races in multiplayer from the get-go?
Edit: And I know that they've said the Wings of Liberty campaign will be as big as SC1, but I'm really skeptical about that. Besides, switching perspectives was a big part of the fun.
I'm actually welcoming the slump a bit. There should be some good Xbox Live Arcade games in July and August to keep me happy(Monkey Island 2, and hopefully Limbo and Comic Jumper), and September has Halo Reach and Atelier Rorona for me.
I will be getting Mafia II on 8/24 and Hydrophobia whenever it goes onto XBL (supposedly 'late summer')
And on September 20, the game of the year -- Professor Layton and the Unwound Future -- comes out

Dead zone? What? There is so much stuff coming up. Yeah, it's slower than late October to December, I suppose. But really, plenty of new releases kicking around. Also, nobody wants to touch SCII.
Oh yeah, I forgot about Metroid: Other M. I hadn't really been paying much attention to Wii release dates since I've only recently decided to pick one up.
I'm a bit nervous about the narrative-heavy approach to a Metroid game, but as long as it's fun.

Basically needing to buy the subsequent...things, to have access to all the units in multi. More specifically whether or not 2/3 are expansion pricing or fulle game pricing.
Even if they are expansion priced, expansion prices haven't been stable as of late. Blizzard used to charge $35 for a expansion, and since WoW, it's gone up to $40.

Ugh that does sound pretty bad. Then again, people go ga ga over SSFIV, so maybe it'll go over well overall. Gamers can be terrible shoppers sometimes.

they haven't even said how the segments will affect multiplayer

Battle Chest. Anyone that buys SCII out of the gate is a big silly goose (and isn't intending to use the MP portion).
I intend to revel in SCII three years from now, when the inevitable battle chest comes around.

So two hundred hour games and Metroid. I think I will be fine. :P

Yeah.
and yeah, constant Steam sales means there doesn't have to be a slump for PC users 8-)
Exactly. There is no dry spell.
Valkyria Chronicles 2
I know you said retail, but digital downloads:
Cave Story (hopefully)
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge Special Edition
I think that's enough for me, not that I'm worrying too much with my massive backlog.
Yeah, between those and Starcraft II there's still notable releases. Things aren't dead, just a little slower.
Stupid addictive MMO.

I think it comes out before Halo too.
Besides, I've got a rather large backlog as is.
They announced yesterday that they're pushing the release date back a month.

My expectations for this game just went downhill.
I assume you were hoping they'd improve things over the demo?
Honestly, I'm not seeing much improvement over the first game, but more of the same with a few tweaks is ok with me.
...?
Why? Its not like its been in development for only a month or something.
I can go back to any year and pick out at least 5-10 games that I haven't played yet that I'm interest in.

That's $140 for a full SC2 in that case.
