I don't get the hate on Jeff Gerstman. The guy tells it like it is. If he doesn't like something, then he says it.
I don't hate Gerstmann. I think the main source of discord is that is doesn't like much of anything outside of Street Fighter and music games. He can make good valid points but when he gripes about games he doesn't like, it seems to devolve into "this part was stupid because of all the stupidity, I hate this whole game now".
I like him as a video game commentator, just don't agree with his reviews. I was really REALLY shocked when he was fighting for Arkham Asylum as Giant Bomb's GOTY last year, and I think he only did that because 1) MW2 was out of the running and 2) he had less gripes about the stupid parts of Batman that the stupid parts of Uncharted 2.
I find myself agreeing with Gerstmann more often than not, and the man is easily the funniest of the four on the Bombcast; if he's out for a week, that presence is missed.

Vinny is pretty funny!
But yeah, I agree with Jeff a lot of the time in regards to his opinions. A lot of what he calls out is actually pretty dumb.

I used to agree, but I think I put Ryan and Jeff on the same level now, funny wise. Although Jeff reading the Wii Ware/DSI ware releases was fantastic this week, such enthusiasm.
You should also listen to You Look Nice Today. It's comical. And Coverville. It's musical.
It is so great. I wish they updeated more frequently
Weekend Confirmed had a pretty good E3 wrap-up. They didn't fall into the trap of trying to record that night, so they'd all had sleep. It's not as funny as other gaming casts though.
Also, the slashfilmcast is great if you're into film.
The Tobolowsky Files is also pretty much essential listening.
Gamers with Jobs (except for RabbitCons, they are awful).
SO true.
I disagree about RabbitCon. It brings out the board game geek in me.
As for podblast recs, I'll throw in Weekend Confirmed from Shacknews with Garnett Lee (It's his goddamn show), Jeff Cannata, and Brian Leahy.
Yes on the first, I just wish I had more people to play board games with.
No on the 2nd, it took weekend confirmed to, well, confirm to me that it wasn't just shane or the general atmosphere of 1up that made 1uy suck so much, it was garnett's lack of control at running a podcast
You have given me something to look forward to. Ryan's gone?
Ryan's not gone, he just proclaimed that he would not read the descriptions for Wii Ware/DSI Ware games anymore on the last (proper) podcast and Jeff said he'd start doing them, and so he has.
Is Europe's number one (only) videogame radio program, and the hosts are just a delight. The next season hasn't started yet, but according to the twitter there will be one starting at some point? It's been a while! They talk about videogames, they also have various things in between with people who are not hosts. And music, they have music.
Among them was a podcast on the Master System and game localization(a great listen).
Why did you trick me into listening to this. I didn't think it was possible to find 4 different people who could all be completely wrong about everything. They spend half of every review or discussion talking about the game's music, and the editing is so random that it really gets annoying. Plus, they throw around the "hardcore" label like it's going out of style and STILL complain about games being too hard.

I like the board game conversations, except they go too long and the become fixated on tedious details. Also, the last RabbitCon podcast was just terrible. They spent half the time talking about that damn MAME cabinet. How much can you talk about a game from the 80s that was terrible even then?
Also, it sometimes distracts me when they talk to much about people not on that day's show. It just seems to distract from what I am looking for.
It's not really gaming related. But you should be listening to the Bugle.
The title just says podcasts, so I think we're okay with recommending it. We'd be okay anyway even if it didn't. It's amazing.
I don't really listen to many gaming-related podcasts besides the 1up ones. Retronauts, Active Time Babble, and 4 Guys 1 Up (now apparently renamed for no reason to a name that isn't nearly as great).
So, they named the 1up podcast: In This Thread. What the hell does that even MEAN?
Also, a Joystiq podcast gripe: They seriously need to quit their habit of talking inside-baseball for half an hour at a time. They spend SO MUCH TIME responding to bait, defending their website, etc. I don't care about their website, I don't even look at it. This time it was about Metacritic, and defending their review system. Usually it's Chris Grant going on a rant about games journalism.

Also not videogame related but whatever... listen to radiolab.

The hosts are all really enjoyable, the main focus is the games they play, their lives, and video game deals.

Maybe gaming podcasts just aren't for me.
Anyone want to beta read a paranormal mystery novella? Here's your chance.

Last two CAGCasts have had a lot of drama going on.

I completely 100% agree with both of these statements.
I Radiolab so fucking much.

You see it a lot on forums, even around here
For example, if you said something that was really dumb in a thread, someone might jump into the thread and say:
ITT Vegan proves his stupidity reaches far beyond that of mere mortals
But it's from 1-Up, so it's about as much sense as I expect out of them
The 1-Upcast
Active Time Babble is a wonderfully witty name.
