I don't understand how that'll work... there are hundreds of alternate earths in marvel

I really wonder how they're going to pull that off.

    Especially since it completely contravenes
the rules about the multiverse in Marvel. It's impossible for Marvel's entire multiverse to be DC's Earth-5 for obvious reasons. This means they're basically just going to have to play it as a gag, and never refer to it again.

Frankly, I have no idea why they'd even try that sort of crap. The 52-worlds thing is going to be weird as it is, since from the summary above there's no clear explanation of how people are going to be distributed, which version of each hero will be remembered on each Earth, etc.

I don't see why it shouldn't be taken as anything but a gag.

If you must rationalize it, though, then imagine that it's not the real Marvel Universe but rather a crazy world that happens to resemble the Marvel Universe.

It's not distributing heroes, it's just different versions of Earth.

The main DCU continuity is "New Earth", which was made during Infinite Crisis

DC's Earth-5 is Marvel's Earth-616. The other Marvel Earths are all alternate versions of that world and are contained within it. I makes sense to me, at least.

Marvel has an Earth set aside for DC as well. And I would assume that all the other DC universes would just be Marvel Earth-21234a, Earth-21234b, etc. As shown in Exiles, they've had already-alternate worlds further splinter off into new worlds that are still connected back to the first.

    Hah! Nice catch.

But this does indicate that we're going to have
different heroes on different Earths, possibly ALSO with New Earth also having the same heroes. It's like an inverted Infinite Crisis.

No, it doesn't indicate that at all. Stop saying stupid things in this thread which require equally stupid responses.

To be honest, I had the same WTF reaction when I read that line in the spoilers about a 'Marvel' Earth being one of the 52. I suppose by now we're just used to associating that word to the company rather then the DC hero.

On another subject, I'd like to see how they'll explain the Wildstorm Earth becoming one of the 52. Was it always connected to the DC Earth via the 'collapsed' Hypertime or did the (near) simotanious resets that occured to both of their worlds end up connecting the pair concidering when Captain Atom showed up in IC? How will the Bleed, associated with Wildstorm's previous multiverse adventures, now factor in other then being a good hiding spot from the Monitors?

    I'm assuming that...
They'll connect the whole vibrational frequency thing with the concept of the Bleed for travel between the Earths of the multiverse. Since the DCU doesn't have a shiftship, I assume that it'll be a while until we see a visit to an alternate Earth that doesn't include Ion (who can travel to the Bleed on his own) or Captain Atom (who is the first in-canon DCU character to venture into the Bleed).

If I became a DC writer tomorrow, I'd have Anna Hark's guy over in Planetary crash his shiftship into the DCU and recruit some characters for a multiverse-spanning romp.

    He so is.

    So anyway.

The Multi-verse is back. Only... in a way which would make it odd to deal with for writers.

I mean, I can't imagine Captain Marvel stories only taking place on Earth-5 from now on, for example.

Maybe some stories will happen that way? Like, one month Captain Marvel will be an Earth-5 story, or whatever?

    I don't think so.

I think we have New Earth that has everybody we know on it, but then we also have the other worlds, where if you go to Earth-5 it's mainly the Marvels and not much else, or you go to Earth-2 and it's the Justice Society instead of the league. New Earth is pretty much unchanged from the end of Infinite Crisis/OYL etc. It's just that all the other Earths are now added on.

Which is useful, because now you have the main DC earth, but you can tell a separate story on Earth-2 or the "Kingdom Come" Earth.

That was a really good ending to a series that was really uneven for me at times.

Although the Montoya storyline still hasn't done anything for me, I do like the way they bookended her story.

After Infinite Crisis, New Earth split into a bunch of identical Earths.

Mr. Mind, in his "evolved" form, can apparently eat space/time.

Whenever Booster & Co. ran to a different Earth, he would start eating its history/events. So he'd chomp something out of Earth-whatever's history and that would cause changes. Like making the Marvel family the main family of heroes. Or making an evil version of the justice league. Or making the Nazis win World War II.

So Mr. Mind changed the 52 (originally identical) universes by chomping events out of their histories and making them different, so now there are 52 different Earths.

Mr. Mind drained these other Earths of histories and altered them in doing so.

So since they were all originally based on the mainstream DCU, this is why most of them are iterations of the mainstream DCU.
