Les Phalles: 3rd night over

FencingsaxFencingsax It is difficult to get a man to understand, when his salary depends upon his not understandingGNU Terry PratchettRegistered User regular
edited May 2007 in Debate and/or Discourse
Les Phalles a commencé

The year is 179-. The Royal Treasury is empty. Food prices are through the roof. The people have declared that they deserve representation and power in government, creating the National Assembly. Distrust and paranoia permeate the Parisan streets. In the midst of this, 2 major political factions begin to gain power among the people: The Jacobins, and The Girondins, are trying to jockey for the best position while also attempting to win freedom for the French Downtrodden (colloquially called Les Miserables) from the Royalists. Suddenly, terrible news runs through the city like fire: General Lamarck, the last of Louis XVI's inner circle who gave a damn about the people is dead. The last hope of a peaceful Republic is dashed. Riots break out. Fighting erupts in the streets. The Royal Family is forced to flee. Barricades are erected, blocking off streets and neighborhoods. We focus our attention on the neighborhood of Les Phalles, on the street of the same name, and the barricade that has adopted that name as well. Rumors abound of Royalist spies or hard line Jacobin or Girondin fanatics or maybe even something else among the people, carting them off to be guillotined. No one knows who to trust, or where to defend from. Fear and paranoia are the order of the day. Who will survive these terrible days? That's for you to decide. Bienvenue à Les Phalles.

The New Voting Mechanic:

First, for someone to die, they must be in Jail.

To put someone in Jail, you vote (in some green, preferably lime) !vote [someone] for Jail
The three most popular votes will be put in jail. The jail only holds seven at any given time. If more than 7 are put in jail, the ones that have been in the longest are set free. Also, you can vote someone out of jail using the same mechanism as blocking a vote, but !vote for [someone's] Freedom
Once someone is in jail, the next night they can be Guillotined.

Like so: I !Vote [Name] for the chop/guillotine/execution

You can also block votes for jail or for the guillotine, like this:

I !block [Name] from Jail

To block a vote, a majority by at least half again must vote to block (except in some special cases, which are secret)

You cannot block your own death or vote for your unjailing. You can vote to block your jailing, however.

If you change your vote, use

!retract my vote to Block/Jail [Name]

To change Freedom votes, use
I !retract freeing [Name]

However, to change death votes, use

!retract my vote to Kill [someone]

You can only vote to block one thing, either jailing or death. Therefore, you have a maximum of four different things to vote for (except the first round, obviously). You do not have to use all of them every single time.

IF YOU ARE IDLE WITHOUT TELLING ME FOR TWO DAYS IN A ROW, BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN

Some special abilities will be known to the users. Others will be revealed through the course of the game.

The goal of the factions (Jacobin, Girondin, Royal) is to eliminate the other two. (YOU ARE KIND OF LIKE THE MONSTERS)

The Downtrodden (Les Miserables) win if every faction has been dwindled down to less than half. They must also be in the majority (More than all the factions put together) by the end. (YOU ARE KIND OF LIKE THE VILLAGERS)

The shorthand I will use for sides will generally be the first three letters or so. (i.e. Jac, Gir, Roy, or Les Mis) I may use it for all of them, but I'll use it the most for Les Miserables, The Downtrodden.

One midnight gone!

The second night

Three sleeps have passed

Alright dude, seems like my modem has stabilized for the moment, so I'm going to play catch-up tomorrow (just two more exams tomorrow and I'll have loads more time to devote to this Phalla).

So yeah, I'm in, as long as the first vote is tomorrow night.

When you say one faction has to "gain dominance," does that mean they have to completely wipe out the other factions? "Gain dominance" is kind of vague.

Are there any requirements as far as what people are required to vote for? Do we have to place at least a vote for something, do we have to at least vote to jail someone, can we not vote at all as long as we're participating...?

Won't this run sort of long at only one execution per day?

Will there be vigilante-style executions within groups, or any other source of lost-life, since the conversion mechanic got axed?

EDIT: also ditto a_alt's sentiments, I love this setting and I love you by proxy<3

4 groups, three of them more or less equivalent to the bad guys. Victory conditions are a little different, and I think the three groups are larger than the traditional 3-4 man groups.

New PMs, there are mechanisms in place so that this won't run too long (although nationalistic fervor may begin to run high if people are becoming impatient), The three groups are going to have somewhat the same function as monsters.
