I'm pretty sure I don't "get" everything that is going on in the game due to the fact that I haven't played any of the titles the characters come from, but other than that I'm pretty happy I picked this up on a whim. It was exactly what I was looking for, old-school JRPG elements and decent looking visuals. Also the music isn't too shabby either.
Bumping this thread to note that Cross Edge is now SUPER SPECIAL. NIS-A is apparently no longer allowed to sell it because of IP reasons (they say the name (??)) and have removed everything relating to it from their servers, including their catalogue and the game site itself.

Must be because of that guy who keeps suing everything with the name edge in it? :?
I have this game, but ran out of steam near the end of the game, and it's now sitting on the shelf.
Having owned Disgaea, I was prepared for a grindy-game. But Cross-Edge cranks it up a notch - not only can your characters reach absurdly high levels(to match the absurdly tough enemies and bosses), crafting late game items and weapons is a juggernaut of a task.
The game throws you a small bone by allowing some weapons, armor and items to appear in the shop after crafting them, which allows you to purchase as many as you need in the future - important since a lot of times they are components for new weapons and items. Unfortunately only a small percentage of these actually go to the shop, with the game demanding you constantly fight for rare drops or steals to make new weapons, break them down for their components that help make new weapons/armor/items, etc.
The plot appears very murky at first, but somehow begins to make sense as you progress. The only problem is that the game has multiple endings, and you won't see the "True Ending" - as well as gain access to the "Final" stage unless you happen to come across certain plot scenes and meet certain requirements. Oh, and these plot scenes are hidden on the various area maps. Oh and you have to view them in a certain order to unlock others; view some of them out of order and you're screwed.
In the end it just got to be too much. I'm pretty much set to get the "True" ending once I beat the boss, but I couldn't bear my cross anymore. I suppose this means I've lost my edge.
....see what I did there?
Oh also, the douchebag that still claims control over the word "Edge" in video games, Tim Langdell
That fag and his piece of shit company will sue anything that uses the word edge in the title, not just video games. I can't believe they can get away with this shit, but that's why the US trademark and patent industry is so broken. You have these companies that hire lawyers just to sue other companies. It's completely asinine.
They really need to make a game where the dominate strategy isn't "sit there, sit there, sit there, sit there, sit there, 4 minute long combo, win."
Oh psh, see I couldn't tell if it was turn based or real-time. Real-time might have been interesting with that graphical style, but that just looks like Xenosaga 2 all over again. At least if I end up getting this it'll be cheap and it can't be that bad. I've played some pretty bad games, and this just looks like it would register an "Eh, it's alright for $20 but it's just kind of pointless. Also it's a collector's item now!"

I keep trying to warn people about Idea Hacktory, but I just come across as a troll.
Hey, when the games are cheap then you better believe I'll buy their stuff. If I could find Chaos Wars for $10 I think the hilarity of the voice acting would justify the purchase. I get sick pleasure out of playing bad games, they just need to not be offensively bad. I like to laugh at them.

I hear Chaos Wars isn't really THAT bad, and the Growlanser fan in me has been tempted(Carmaine is in it, among others), but I couldn't endure that horrible localization. It's not funny bad like Shikigami 2.
It's just bad.

My friend bought Trinity Universe and the game is actually somewhat fun. Not to mention nowhere near as grindy as Idea Factory's other games.
That being said it is pretty short and not worth full price from what I can see.

Chaos Wars is pretty terrible. The game itself could be decent
if not for the
load times for fucking
everything.
Seriously. Even if you turn voices off, it still stalls for a couple seconds just to load the sound effects for basic attacks.

And it has Etna in cosplay?
What else do you WANT, people?
360 port, apparently.
No. It's not. It's not even close.
There's a superficial amount of similarities, but yeah, it's pretty different.
I am enjoying this a lot. I hope they find some way to bring over all the games cited in this.
(Edit: Wait, is the first Atelier game the only one not English Localized yet?)
Oh, and as for a 360 version:
"An Xbox 360 version titled "Cross Edge Dash" will be released in Japan in October 2009.[2]"
What?
There are 15 Atelier games in the series so far (11 in the main series). 4 of them have made it to the US so far (5th in the fall though).
Also, good on IF for the 360 port. Now Gust and N-1 just need to follow suit and I can continue completely ignoring the PS3.
So yeah, this game is fun, but I really need to get to Etna and the Prinny.

By the way, has anyone tried Trinity Universe yet? I want to know what the deal is with that game.
The deal is that it's as bad as all Idea Factory games are?
