This really should not have to be said but, please get a working mic if you are going to be entering the tournament. Voice commands and chat do not work in a competitive setting.
In that case I'll have to bow out: Source refuses to recognise any mic I introduce to it these days.
Just to throw in my two cents on the map: coming from a competitive background, I can say that maps like Badwater and Dustbowl are simply not enjoyable in a competitive game. 5 point CP maps, Gravelpit, and even some KOTH maps like Viaduct are best suited. The most played maps off the top of my head:
Yeah if the mic is a dealbreaker than I'll pass; not a big deal. I'd like to save up and get a nice headset so maybe I'll catch the next tourney. Those turtle beaches are supposed to be pretty nice...

I don't think there should be a requirement for using a mic. I have played in many tournaments and have not had issues with players without a mic. Now, if more than half the team is without a mic, then it's an issue

I never realized people would be so butthut over 2 maps and mics. Grow up. I never said mics were mandatory. I asked people to get a mic because it works better than chat. If you don't want to get a mic, the loss is only to your team.
And if you don't like playing Badwater and dustbowl, you are a communist. They are on my map list for the tournament.

I mean that kind of just implies don't sign up if you're not buying a mic.

It never occurred to me that someone would want to enter a tournament without the most effective means of communication. It's like trying to make fired food in the oven. Yeah it is cooked, but what is the point.

so the fact that people enjoy the game without a mic and might continue to enjoy the game without a mic in an organized fashion didn't occur to you?

because I mean that just seems silly to me.
General TF2 is fine if some people don't have a mic. When you only have 9 people in a real competitive environment, communication is key. But seriously, this matter is closed.
uh i recall playing comp tf2 with tiny and other people from here and there would often be at least one dude without a mic. It's not that much of an issue especially if it's like the pocketing soldier or something.

What's the point of asking for suggestions on the map list if you don't listen to them How many maps are we planning on having anyway? I hope there is at least one 5-point CP map in the pool.

@Michael H: I just bought the Creative Area Headset last month and love, love, love it. It sounds amazing in games supporting EAX like BC2.

Joe's Stream.
I'll play anything that isn't spy. My levels of usefulness though will vary.
If that's cool. You guys.
Guy.
I dont post often, but I am somewhat of a regular on the servers.
From previous experience mics certainly help in comp but they're by no means necessary

you should reconsider.
All That_Guy is saying is that it'd be a really good idea to have a mic. He isn't saying you can't enter without one.
